It’s essential that some smaller American communities are linked to the nation’s air transportation system especially those in the West, Alaska, and stretches of the Midwest where drive distances between cities can be daunting. It’s so essential that the federal government is willing to subsidize the service. That’s the case in Columbia, Missouri (COU), where US Airways Express expects to begin propjet service to both Lambert St. Louis International (STL) and Kansas City (MCI) come October 5.

To make flying more attractive than driving on these routes (fuel prices, wear and tear on car and body), US Airways Express is using “Shuttle Faresâ€. That means a single, uncomplicated fare for each destination. It doesn’t matter if you walk up at the last minute, or book ahead. There are no restrictions.

The fare from Columbia to St. Louis is $59 one-way. Round-trip, it’s $118. The same rates apply to Columbia to Kansas City. These “Shuttle fares†don’t include taxes and fees.

Air Midwest, a Mesa Airlines subsidiary, will do the flying under the US Airways Express banner. The new flights will help further develop that carrier’s Kansas City hub, bringing the number of cities served under either the US Airways Express or Mesa Airlines names to 13.

US Airways on Tuesday began flying between Washington and Sarasota, Fla.

The Tempe, Ariz.-based airline was scheduled to make its first flight at 10 a.m. between Ronald Reagan National Airport and Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.

US Airways Express carrier Republic Airways will fly the routes using a 72-seat commercial jet. The service will operate daily. Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport is six miles north of downtown Sarasota and 10 miles south of downtown Bradenton.

US Airways has been adding flights and dropping prices to stay competitive. About a week ago, the airline (NYSE: LCC) said it would cut fares from Reagan National to New York and Boston for advance-purchase tickets.

US Airways is lowering prices from Reagan National to a total of 16 cities, with round-trip fares to New York as low as $100 and round-trip fares to Boston as low as $198.

The discount fares apply to tickets purchased at least 14 days ahead of time.

I read an article about 2 months ago that said that usairways was gonna take the EMB-190 in there(Sarasota) starting in December on the weekends and the AB-319 during the week. Did they decide to give all the flying "AGAIN" to the express carrier? This is just crazy! Why does U continue to sell us out to express. They are gonna keep on taking over our flying.

Well, considering that the 190 isn't even here...

That article also said that the 170 would be flying the route until then.
