Tuesday June 8, 2:06 pm ET

MIAMI, June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- For years the word has been out that "it's better in the Bahamas." Now American Airlines and its regional partner, American Eagle, are making it easy for travelers to visit this great resort destination with new nonstop service to Nassau from both New York and Dallas/Fort Worth.
American will operate seasonal weekend flights to Nassau from both cities beginning July 3. American will fly the routes with Boeing Super 80 aircraft, configured with 14 First-Class seats and 115 seats in the Main Cabin arranged in American's exclusive "More Room Throughout Coach" seating that offers additional legroom between rows. The service will operate on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept 5.

"The Bahamas is a first-class tourist destination and we strive to offer the best product and flight schedule as well as superior customer service," said Peter J. Dolara, American's senior vice president-Miami, Caribbean and Latin America. "We are confident this will have positive results for the local economy, as we are confident we will continue to receive support from the government and business communities."

In addition, as previously announced, American Eagle will begin daily seasonal serve to Nassau from Dallas/Fort Worth effective June 10, using new 70-seat CRJ-700 regional jets. The flight will operate through Sept. 7, and then begin again on Dec. 15.

"Expanding air service to the Bahamas is one of our main priorities. Through American Airlines and American Eagle's expansion, we can continue to grow our nation's most important industry -- tourism," said the Honourable Obediah Wilchcombe, The Bahamas' Minister of Tourism. "We are pleased that American Airlines and American Eagle continue to grow in our market; their support helps us flourish."

The flight has been bookable for over a month now. I never understand why it always takes AA so long to make new routes public. Maybe they want to see how it performs under the radar?

Make that mostly coach aircraft. I think the service from LGA is S80.
Service from LGA is on the S80, and they will also fly S80 service on Saturdays and Sundays from Dallas in addition to the Eagle service.

If you don't like the S80 you can always take US Airways' daily Airbus 319 to both FPO or NAS.
Everyone including AA knows that US Airways may be gone soon. AA is just looking for ways to stake their claim now, before the rush.
