Kev,
A great/interesting article !

I'm VERY glad that BIG RED, is sticking with the freighters, and this new guy, seems to be up for the task.

With CHINA growing as fast as a pubescent teenager, NW would be NUTS to pull out now.

I would'nt rule out doing a re-con on a 747-400 passenger a/c, and picking up an equal number of 747-800's (for passenger service) to replace them.

The ANC/NW operation......."ROCKS"

Now landing a red tail AF into DFW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,has me scratching my noggin' a bit.

Also, I'm not sure if you know, but BOS/cargo is making up, and trucking Main Deck pallets all the way to ORD(Yup ORD, not JFK)...that tells me, that the JFK flt is "loaded"

Me too. I don't know enough about the new guy to comment, but we'll see...

Amen! I think the move from HKG to CAN was a good move; I imagine we'll see more of that in the future (and maybe non-stops as/if/when bilaterals allow???)

Seems to make the most sense to me. I can't see the A330 as an option, and as mentioned the 777 is not on NWA's radar for either passenger or cargo service.

I'd really like to get up there and see the operation for myself one of these days. I've seen lots of pictures, and worked with plenty of guys that have been up there, but that's just not the same.

That one jumped out at me as well, but they must have some sort of data to be considering it. I know DFW has a lot of other cargo carriers, so something must be good down there....

I did not know there was a BOS-ORD "house truck." I know CMH used to have to either ORD or DTW, and in PDX we had one that ran to SEA and back. Frankly, I thought a lot of these went away after we filed BK. I would think JFK would be there first one "back in business," followed by either SEA or SFO.

Only NW gateway for main deck cargo is ORD.

Trucking main deck from BOS to ORD is not a good value for anybody with today's fuel surcharges.

ANC originally gained importance because the 74s required a sip of gas on those long-hauls.

AA sells their cargo product better than NW. Also don't know how much revenue NW shares with KL.
