Just arrived bringing a few hundred troops with me. Thought it would be fun to see some happy Marines for a change. (Can you believe how young they look?) Anyway, enjoy!

Great picture!
I hope they all stay safe, but the world is not a safe place anymore, with all the fanatics out there.

Flying "Our Troops" was the most rewarding and enjoyable flights I ever made (about ten years back). If you get a chance to fly one these flights, I highly recommend you jump at it. You will remember it for life.

Thanks Fly.

I've been lucky enough to do a lot of these this year. Spent the first half of the year taking them TO Kuwait. ahhhhh.....Now I get to take them home. As you can see, they are much more lively on this leg of the journey.(and a little less sober too...lol) 😛

Last week on a flight back from FRA we had a lone GI going back home for two weeks of R&R after spending the previous 6 months in Baghdad. When I got back up to the cockpit I saw a ticket stub with name on the console and asked what was the significance. The word I got from the other F/O was that this guy, due to a hurried departure out of FRA, had gotten on the plane but did not have a ticket past IAD for his trip to home in BOS and that we should contact the Company to see about a connection/tickets/etc.

I fired a couple ACARS notes to IAD Ops and the reply came back...yes, he could make a late flight and the cost would be $300 for the military discount. YGBSM!!!!

Long story short, I fired back an ACARS message telling the Station personnel to list him in First Class under my employee number for the flight to BOS and I´d give him one of my companion passes (which I carry with me to help out stranded travelers, jumpseaters, etc....not that I make it a habit!!).

The good news is that after we got into IAD, we helped escort this GI through customs, etc. and sent him on his way back to his wife and kids, and by the way...thanks to the gate agent at IAD who picked up the ball when we told her what we were trying to do for this proud patriot.

Not looking for any atta boys here. Just a good feeling to share with the rest of you out there. Yes, I still believe these are the FRIENDLY SKIES!

Cheers,

ZMan,

Great story...thanks for sharing...and taking care of these well-deserving troops.

Zman -- That's a great story and a wonderful gesture. To you I say:

MWAAAAH!!

Fly, was that a CRAF flight you were working? One of the ideas my team had for a follow up study (after we finish the Air Crew Stress Study now underway) is crew experiences with CRAF flights. What do you think? Good idea or no?

Zman...you are indeed a great person and true patriot....you are a credit to our industry.

With high regards ,

Sure was Doc. I have hundreds of people who can answer your questions...let me know. But I can answer your questions right now (and assure you that 99.9% agree with me) those trips are a RIOT!!!!!

Fly, I'm all ears!! Tell me here, or PM me, or email me at sullivan@aircrewstudy,com -- I'd love to hear all about it!

What a great idea! I just looked at the HeroMile page, and forwarded the link to everyone in my address book who flies a lot and collects miles. If we all do that, those soldiers may get some good rides home.
