Philly's Finest

Given that this took place in Terminal F, they would be Express employees of Piedmont. Not that this makes the situation any better, but should be reported as such.

I disagree. The name over the door is "US Airways." If LCC wants to operate with wholly-owned carriers and contract carriers, they need to accept corporate responsibility when things like this happen. I would be amazed if even 5% of the passengers using the F Terminal are even aware that they are not technically traveling on US Airways.

And, to their credit, LCC does not seem to even try to distance themselves from cases of bad news like this.

When this kind of stuff goes in PHL the police join in on the crime rather than try and stop it. PHL airport is a dump, never liked the city either.

Josh

I'm unclear were the items stolen from planeside valet items? Never flown US Express at PHL/Terminal F, but generally you don't "check" items and reclaim at baggage claim, they are taken at the boarding door. I'm not saying its imposible but did they rummage through the passengers' baggage on the tarmac before loading it on the regional jets?

Josh

I'm willing to bet the items came out of carry on bags given that nearly all of the passengers are forced to hand them over.
I agree about the main entity being responsible, just intended to clarify it for those on here. Fwiw, express does have separate management, and mainline has very little say or involvment in what goes on at Piedmont.

PHLs Finest?
It has nothing to do with PHL....

Every time something happens in PHL at US Airways, you jump up, point it out, and make it look like it is a US/PHL problem. Yet, all the other times it happens everywhere else, nothing is said.

Here's a couple more for ya...

Terminal F'd may be but disagree on the other . Guess you haven't been there lately.
Pay no attention, Joshie is an avid US hater that can't refrain from posting his BS here. To date he has failed to come forward with who his financial employer is so that we may pick them apart.

Terminal F at PHL...oh yeah, that's the one where I got sneered at by the CSA's at the service desk because I had the audacity to interrupt their very lively discussion about sweet potato pie recipes. I asked if there was any way they could tell me if my checked bag had made it to my final destination. The agent hesitated, as if considering to answer in the negative, and then with obvious disappointment said she could and asked for my baggage slip.

In an atmosphere where the only people giving a **** about what's going are the passengers desperate to escape I have to say this doesn't surprise me at all. What was it someone once told me about working ramp PHL? Oh yeah, "It's either scam or get scammed"...

Piedmont is wholly owned by US, who has a significant amount of control over their operations.

I can assure you that this isn't always the case on the station level. The mainline management has zero interaction with the express workforce. The hiring processes are completely independent of each other.

Technically correct nitpicking about which legal entity is liable for the theft is interesting (and very important for the lawyers in parceling out the liability), but I can guarantee that the victims couldn't care less who employed the thieves or whether they were mainline employees, employees of a wholly-owned subsidiary or $8/hr contract fleet service. All they care about is that they bought a ticket from USAirways.
