Authority will not challenge US Airways

Allegheny County officials will not file a challenge to US Airways'' rejection of its leases and contracts at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Rather, the Allegheny County Airport Authority and county Chief Executive Jim Roddey have turned their focus to reaching a solution with US Airways, according to Jeff Letwin, the authority''s solicitor. The airline has demanded $155 million in airport improvements and lower operating costs.

At this point, we''re not going to file an adversarial pleading (in bankruptcy court) and not file any motions to have them undo what they did, Letwin said. We''re going to work with them.

The airline rejected leases and contracts at Pittsburgh International just minutes before emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, raising fears it could leave the airport and jeopardize 9,000 local jobs. US Airways dominates the airport and is the region''s fourth-largest employer.
