We were wondering if you guys get any tangible benefit from A&B certificates. Do they hook you up with bonuses or snazzy coffee mugs or anything if you collect enough of them or is it just a "feel good" sort of thing?

We get entered into a drawing for cash. 10 people company wide win $10K per quarter with smaller payouts to other winners.

Personally, I have sent in many and not won a dime. Moreover, there is no record kept in our file that we received any. So unless we win the drawing, they mean nothing. I make copies for my supervisor to put in my file, but they told me, "so what".

seems to me the same people names are drawn.
I feel there should be a cap on it.

My understanding is that back in the days of the program under America West that you collect the certificates for free travel passes, etc.

Also, since I've heard that these certificates dont get entered into an employees files, I always give the certificate as well as send in a letter/email. Since I know (or would at least hope) that the letter would get into the file.

Unless there is some dirty dealings, I dont think it would be fair to cap how often a person can win. I could see saying once somebody has one in a drawing that they cant win again that same drawing, but why exclude them from future drawings? If somebody is always providing great service and is constantly getting the certificates, why should they be penalized?

It would be nice if those FFs who aren't seated up front would recognize that many people do a noteworthy job in the aft cabin (considering what they have to work with.) to.

Many of us almost never sit in back. When we do, we rarely get much interaction with the FAs since there isn't much opportunity to do so in the back.

I started a similar topic back in April of 2009 called " Above & Beyond Winners". It is on page 27 of this forum - not sure how to link it over to this topic.

Yes the employees do get tangible benefits. As mentioned the best is $10,000. Of course, those of us without passenger interaction are dependent on thankless management from A&B cards.

I don't know where you are based, but in my base, we turn them in and they are copied for our file, notated in our computer screens (I've seen mine) and mailed to PHX weekly. Last quarter we had 2 f/as in our base win 10,000.

I think it is totally fair to cap the 10,000 winners because every card an employee receives is not entered into a chance to win the 10,000. Each card gets you the chance to be entered into the drawing to be entered into the drawing for the 10,000. Limits are set on how many employees can be entered from each department.

If you win BIG then I think you need a time out for a period. Save your cards until that period is over.

That is just me though.

It’s a lottery plain and simple not sure what the odds are

While by all rights you deserve to be recognized for going above and beyond as it sounds like you definitely do (and sounds like you will continue to do), I don't think its right that you harbor resentment towards those people that win the prizes. This is a contest which by nature is a game of chance. You can enter the contest by going "above and beyond" but that doesnt guarantee youll win anything.

I go above and beyond for my clients (internal and external) in my job but I have never once received any of the awards or recognition that have been given out via the various "service" contests and programs. Do I harbor resentment and ill-will towards those that receive the awards and recognition, no..
