Q about Above & Beyond certs from flyertalk

Back in the day (pre-merger) we could turn in A&B cards for positive space travel. I think you had to have 8. It was a great deal but when we (America West) merged with US it went away. Now, you did get taxed on it so what some would do is they would turn in the a&b's for rt tickets to say PHX-LAS-PHX since the fares were pretty cheap and that meant less taxation. Once they were ticketed you could then reissue for ANY city pairs and not worry about being taxed as a result of a higher priced routing.

I don't care for the program as it is today. I've turned in probably 35 of those things and have gotten zero return. Now that I'm furloughed it doesn't matter.

I got most of my a&b's for recognizing FF seated in coach that didn't make it to first. I always made sure to address them, let them know that all though they didn't make it up front that we would do everything to make the ride in coach comfortable and people seem to really appreciate that.

<I really think that the reward is fine?
All we have to do is our job...
the reward system is just a extra credit..
so just do what you are supposed to do..
and you will keep your job and get a paycheck...
the reward for the a and b is just extra credit...
just be nice... and take care of the customer..>

that is my opinion

Sweetie,

I take great pride in doing my job and doing it well. You just make sure you're doing yours. Who are you to be threatening others with joblessness and lack of income? Who died and assigned you that role?? I don't like the tone you are being a little heavy-handed and presumptious to say the least[/font].

As a paying customer I've always been troubled by the program. Not because it's bad program because it isn't.

I'm just puzzled as to why Tempe would even bother given that nearly every other action by them is anti customer, anti employee in word and deed. Why bother? Everybody sees it for what it is. Lipstick on the Labor Relations Pig.

The company keeps and puts in your employee file any "Bad Letters" but the A & B certs don't get recorded in an employees file. Now interestingly enough if you take the time to write a "Good Letter" that does go in an employees file.

Think for a second why the A & B certs don't?. Here's a possible reason. F/A is a 30 yr+ employee who finds herself jammed up on an attendence issue. Well if they end up in arbitration or court over her getting fired the very last thing they need in her file is 55 A & B Certificates that bolster the union & F/A position. Remember they want the TOS folks out at any price.

Whenever I receive exceptional service I take the time to write an e-mail to several VP's which helps the employee if they happen to run afoul of the Labor Relations Gestapo.

I would like to correct something here. I invite you to visit the employee file room at our base and you will see the xerox'd copy of every A & B that our f/as turn in. The files also contain all good letters and bad ones as well, which are few and far betweenl. We also have a program that for so many good letters you receive, you receive a gift card of some kind. Different levels in the "All-Star" program. Unfortunately, these message boards are very negative and don't always convey the entire story!!! Our Crew Room has a board up where we post quotes from the hundreds of A & Bs that are turned in weekly. But no one wants to say that management takes the time and does anything good around here.

It's great that your base does that for FA's who are given the A&B certs to turn in, but what about the other bases and employees that aren't FA's? Do they get the same benefit? Is it company policy for everyone that gets A&B certs? Why not photocopies of all the A&B certs an employee gets and not just those turned in by the employee?

In other words, using the actions of one manager towards a subset of one employee group is more of an indictment of company management as a whole for their perceived value of the input provided by the A&B certs.

I photocopy mine before I mail them in. I place them in nice rows that will fit on a sheet of paper, then flip them over and copy the reverse side.

What base has the A&B certs posted? I think that is a good idea!!

I agree, as well as agreeing that copies should be placed in the employee's file - for all stations (not just crew bases) and all employees.
