i would like to know when they are going to post the rest of the classes for midatlantic on the hiub. i see that two septebmer classes are on their but what about the rest. does anybody know if they are going to post them or has anyone heard.

i feel guilty even asking because everyone else on hear is talking about pilot talks and what to do when we go under but i guess i want to know this in case we do not go under and the companie survives.
how many people even work for midatlatnic anyways and how many more are they hiring. thanks.

that is a good question itrader i dont even know the answer to that because i cant find it on the hub anywhere. is there a place to find this out.
all i remember is that they were having three planes a month come to us but i dont know how many we have now. good question.

i have one more question and that is is it maa or mda. i have seen it both ways but i dont know for sure.

atlantis,

For awhile, there was some effort by some to call it something other than MDA (MAA and Embraer Division come to mind), but other than that everything on the ALPA side that I've seen still uses the MDA terminology.

They certainly are keeping things quiet, there's not a lot of talk on here at all about MAA classes. I noticed on usairways.com that they did have a few positions open, including a posting for a Director of Inflight. That might have some bearing on the classes, if Inflight is currently leaderless.

They won't post the other classes because they won't be operating after September.

Ofificially...?

It is mainline US Airways, the EMB-170 Division of mainline US Airways.

Reality...?

The thing is that MDA is a strange hybrid mix of mainline and express, you basically just have to be flexible and ready for some changes from what the norm was back at mainline

For example:
It is Midatlantic, with MDA as the usual initials, as MD is the Airline code for non rev use, but the flights are "USAir flight so and so", and the Fed's are very particular that it is reffered to as a division of Airways, not separate.

It is a little strange, as the ID's are Airways ID's, not express, but they have a strange blue MDA logo under "US Airways". Your hardware (wings, emblem) are US Airways, not Express. Yet the Aircraft reads US Airways Express, not "US Airways"

The best way to think of Midatlantic, is simply that is is mainline's express division, flown by Airways pilots, but with express pay and express work rules (with the exception of the Sched. section of the Airways contract) Your Pay will be American Eagle TOS (8yr) if you are an F/O coming in off the APL 36ish), or 1st year Eagle CA pay (54 ish) if you are comng in as a CA.

You are back as a voting member of the Airways ALPA (AAA), and have to pay dues and assesments. But the assesments are scaled back to reflect the lower pay

Right now the classes average 10-12 pilots a week, one a week, each week. Sim training is up and running in both YUL and CLT now, and soon the ground training will transfer from the PIT school. The majority of the the class positions have been for F/O's to make up for the shortage here, but the mix should change into the future. There is not hard and fast number of CA v FO in each class as I have seen it shift a few times already.

The company has seemed to have been slow to post class awards due to the shifting changes in CA v FO numbers, (IMO due to dealing with attrition), this has been from btoh above with the APL pilots and below from the CEL (Wholly Owned) pilots. Wish I could tell ya something more useful than that for now, but like I said, things tend to shift and change here on a constant basis, so even if I did tell you one thing it is "subject to change"

Hopefully they will give you a decent idea in a short while. For now, the two bases are PIT and PHL, with a projected base in DCS opening this fall.

Hope it helps, GL

atlantis,

Well, it's MAA. I really do not know why everyone always uses the MDA..but, officially it is MAA. As, far as classes go, well, they only have them posted and scheduled one month at a time. I would say to check in like 2 or 3 weeks for the October classes. The flight attendants still have to where express wings. I did hear that we may not have to where them much longer, I guess the FAA says we are not express. So, there is an issue right now as far as the express wings, pilot hat emblems and even the express logo on the actual aircraft.
We do have to be certified on all aircraft. Mainline also has to be certified on the EMB-170. I just spoke with someone who had recurrent a few months ago and he had to learn the a/c. Alot of mainline f/a's do not beleive it that they have to learn it in recurrent. Well, we all have the same manual. Atlantis, it is all real confusing. We really do not know what we are at times...until you see that SAD paycheck..then you wake up and realize..THIS IS EXPRESS!!!!!! 🙁

my question is this: if the faa says that the crews cannot wear express wings, pins, hats, etc, then does the same apply to the aircraft titled usairways express?
or could it say MidAtlantic Airways operated by usairways? also what kind of effect would it have on the stations that have the emb-170?

Just to add a bit more from xoxo's post. The website class schedules have indeed only been updated once per month and they have updated them late in the month each time. The October classes will no doubt be posted sometime after the 13th.

As for the use of the word Express, I personally think it junk anyway. These crews should not have to deal with the stigma that goes with the word Express nor should they feel as though they have been downgraded. As many have mentioned, MAA is but a division of US Airways. Nothing more, nothing less. These employees have been dealing with a lot of negativity from the "mainline" crews and honestly don't deserve it. I've heard of some people having trouble jumpseating, I've heard "mainline" crews badmouthing MAA, not knowing that someone that has very close ties to MAA might be sitting in plain clothes on the plane.

I hope it all works out to be a good situation. Maybe it will be SwissAir all over again. It would work to the benefit of the MAA crews for sure.

That's about the size of it. They may have 20 in the fleet, but many less in the air on a daily basis. They have already axed sevral flights for the first week of Sept.
Heard there were 4 OTS in PHL yesterday....
