OK, I'm just foolin around on usairways.com (what else? it's Friday night) and so a round trip from CLT to ROC leaving Oct 25 (next Monday) and returning the following Monday and it's $1,017.00. My question is this....why don't they make it $1,017.95? If they did that then all the $1,017.00 tickets they sold now give an additional dollar (almost) and anyone willing to pay $1,017.00 would certainly pay $1,017.95, wouldn't they?

So I figure it this way....U isn't really gouging their customers because they are not using the normal retail pricing strategy and so in effect they are actually saving their customers a dollar (almost) every time they spend a grand! What a great marketing gimmick that is!

Seriously, is U likely to "follow" WN and B6 and whatever identifier America West uses and get rid of these 100 minute $1,000.00 flights (or for that matter those 5 hour $1,000.00 flights)? Or are the 7 and 14 day restrictions going to stay for the CLT market?

446.90 USD per person
Leg Flight info Date Depart Arrive Stops
1 United Airlines 1849
(Operated by US Airways) Oct 25 5:55 pm CLT 7:09 pm IAD Non-stop
United Airlines 5862
(Operated by United Express/Awac) Oct 25 10:05 pm IAD 11:21 pm ROC Non-stop
2 United Airlines 7783
(Operated by United Express/Chautauqua) Everyday low fares Oct 31 6:25 am ROC 7:42 am IAD Non-stop
United Airlines 5301
(Operated by United Express/Awac) Everyday low fares Oct 31 9:00 am IAD 10:23 am CLT Non-stop

So here's a better way to get to Rochester from Charlotte, kinda like almost 3 Uniteds for the price of 1 US Airways. The only good news is that United also charges the $1,017.00 for the direct flight.

US will be gradually adding GoFares in all of the markets served.
They will most likely wait until FlyI and AWA start eroding the
revenue base in CLT before doing so. Most rational people agree
that over $1000 is a ridiculous sum to pay for a 100 minute flight
and when FlyI starts offering their $199 walk up fares out of
CLT, US will have to match or lose customers.

Just checked round trip from MDT to Chicago, AA $173, UA $178, US $400+!, and the US flight is a code share so you fly on the UA flight. Is this inteligent pricing?
