According to local station WBTV in CLT USAIRWAYS broke a 3day record for psgrs from Mar.18-20. With over 90% of the planes full . They said nearly a million people flew this past weekend.

Of course our load factor is high; we’ve park half our mainline fleet. Tell me that the number of passenger we carry is at an all time record high and I’ll feel better. Ain't going to happen, we're running 5 RJ's and Delta's running 10 MD80's in markets we owned 5 years ago.

Actually that's what they did say, Deltawatch--it was related to the number of passengers, not load factor--almost a milliion flown.....

I've seen this on both NW and US. Planes are bursting at the seams. I guarantee someone somewhere is making money (e.g., the oil companies).

However, Mr. Lakefield warned that relatively full planes don't necessarily translate into more profits.

High fuel prices and decreasing ticket prices are causing the airline to reap a "historically low yield," he said.

I have an idea.... stop giving away tickets!!

I'm betting with all these passengers that the GDS' aren't doing too bad either.

Sales
(-) Fuel
(-) Labor
(-) Variable GS&A
= contribution margin

(-) Fixed Overhead
(-) Fixed GS&A
= Net Income

I think Lakefield does not believe US Airways average fare generates positive contribution margin @ a 90%+ LF. (thats very very bad). I'd love to see the current cash position right now.. Dont the 1q 10Q's come out soon? How long can this party last? The final keg has been tapped and nothings coming out except warm foam. High jet fuel prices will lag crude by at least a few months, the longer oil stays above $50 the harder it becomes for US to climb out of BK. Its just about April now.. if US cant turn a profit by mid summer, things will be increasingly grim, and you will see more pieces being sold.

Buyout/merger is inevitable, I just hope MGMT looks after the employees this time, no way can failure be pinned on labor. I just dont see how united/us air merger does either any good.

The parts > the whole.

'I just hope MGMT looks after the employees this time'

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?....WHEN DID THEY EVER LOOK AFTER US?

YOU DON'T GET IT, THEY DON'T CARE ......

HOPE YOU TOOK THE EARLY OUT, I DID! ..THANK GOD!

It is my understandings that US Airways’ revenue is improving, load factors are up, and May and June bookings are gaining quit a bit of strength.

Thanks for some positive news for a change. This Board is overwhelmed by negativity.
