Regional Elite

I'll agree with you there, it is a management thing, but the ground crews and the management all point the finger at the union rules and complaints fall on deaf ears. I really wish it would work like you mentioned at your place, but it doesn't in my area. At least, not in my experience.

In fact, during one especially nasty night of storms, the crews they sent to my scene were from 60 miles away. And by the time they got to my scene 4 hour later, the crew had already had 2 breaks be cause they were paged at home, had to drive to the shop, get the trucks and equipment ready, drive that 60 miles (first break was before they got into town) and it was their break time again when they got to my scene and didn't do anything for the first 30 minutes they were there. And this was a storm that people were without power for over a week in spots. Hardly effecient work methods. But again, I speak from my own experience...it sounds like you have it better.

Regarding what I did to help them...nothing, I was stranded over a quarter mile away diverting traffic, with every other car demanding to go straight. So I wasn't supervising them, but could clearly see them and what they were doing. It took over 8 hours to cut and remove a tree and re-string the power poles...8 hours of being stuck at that intersection when I could have been put to better use during that storm clean up.

So maybe my opinion is tainted by all the years of watching stuff like I have described. But we all speak from our own experiences, don't we?
Why are you working Burger King wages at some sad excuse for what masquerades as an airline company when you are a qualified lineman, utility company company manager, traffic cop, and tree trimmer, (did I miss any others?)...

Just saw the new regional elite website and noticed on their map they have OMA listed as a REAS city. But as of right now, that's not true. I wonder if they're getting the OMA contract and kicking Skyway out soon?

You can respond with personal attacks if you want to.

Bottom line...you clearly do NOT live in Michigan where ANY job is better then NO job. With a real unemployment rate at 25% and an incompetent Democrat governor, coupled with an incompetent Democrat president and Congress...there is no hope for us in this disaster area of a state.

You take when you can find. And in 6 months of unemployment from a full time employer...and having over 1.2 million registered job seekers for only 18,000 posted jobs on the unemployment job search site...shows exactly how many people are apply for ANY job they can get.

And Comair was THE ONLY company that interviewed me, to this date, to offer me a job. And the median wage for jobs in Michigan nowadays is $8-9 per hour. Shows you just how wonderful your unions are...they have destroyed this state with thier obsessive demand for more and more until the auto industry has all but abandonded this state and flooded the market with over paid unemployed people. That did nothing but drive wages down for the rest of us.

I have never made my public safety work my full time employment, I used to work in the medical field. Everyone thought that was a recession proof industry and jobs were secure. But when 1/4 of your state's workers lose their jobs, lose their insurance...they don't go to the doctor. Suddenly, the medical field isn't so safe...and people go home. Its that simple.

So take your pot shots all you want...but to be honest, I really don't give a flying crap what some union hack wants to criticize me about. I have a job at this point and while it is neither ideal, nor great wages, maybe the fact that it irrates someone like you might just make it all that much more worth while. Call it thumbing your nose (in polite terms) to the arrogance of unionheads like you.

Seriously dude, leave Michigan, if its that bad then leave. I really do think Burger King pays more than REAS isnt that always an option

First off, when your house has lost 40K in value in the last 18-24 months...and you owe more then you can dump it for now...that's a bit more difficult then it sounds. The banks have destroyed the housing market by not working with people and forcing them out of their houses driving down all property values and flooding the market with houses that can be bought for pennies on the dollar. I know several people who have tried to sell their houses (that are not in foreclosure) and everyone of them have said the same thing..."I'm not being foreclosed, you'll have to actually pay for this house if you want to buy it." The only home "buyers" out there are those who want to steal everything and try to turn a quick buck in the process like you see in those reality "flip this house" shows.

Second, I'm not the one complaining about REAS. Its these elitist union coolaid drinking mainliners on this site that have an issue with us. Its not the greatest job, but its A job and its a foot in the door. Neither of which I had up until Comair hired me. My resume has been sent to 103 employers by the site I mentioned, not to mention all the ads I've contacted independent of them.

I'm looking at options to get the heck out of Michigan, but I am NOT going to berated by these people on this site that view me as sub-human garbage because simply because they think that anyone who isn't in a union should be eliminated from the work force.

I live in a disaster area that is a union bastion. I see exactly how union workers think and act...you can barely "throw a stone" without hitting a UAW or Teamster member. And what do we have? The HIGHEST unemployment rate in the nation. AND some of the lowest wages being offered by what few employers are hiring in this state. WHY? Because the unions, and the Democrat party they support, have destroyed the job market by driving businesses out of the state with excessive employee expenses and taxation. There is no reason for companies to stay in Michigan when they can go somewhere else and do business for less.

So while I would love better wages, listening to the temper-tantrums of union workers complaining about how we, at REAS, are the Great Satan in this industry is something I will confront head on. I take no issue with them, but the shoe isn't on the other foot. And so I will speak out when attacked. If that ticks people off, so be it. I don't care. But I have a right to work just like anyone else does.

You sound alot like a guy I know. Your name isn't Doug is it?

The unions didn't bring down the house of cards that you call home. People that do a job for half of what the going pay rate does.
