In the case of the Calif intra-state market, WN, did not move until after US pulled out. Its only intra-CA route was SFO-SAN, IIRC. While we can make comments on US leadership at the time, in all fairness to them, AA did exactly the same thing to the former OC (AirCal) markets. Bob Crandall has been called many things by many people, but is no slouch. Yet AA misunderstood the CA market just as badly at the CCY gang did. And then they go and do the same thing with Reno Air! And, to a great degree, to the TW markets. Some people just don't learn.
