It has come to my attention via a souce that "can not be named" that THE NEW USAIRWAYS", is considering a return of the Genie tray dog dish. Rather than us the oven they already have on the 319-20-21, they have decided that it makes more cents (pun intended) to bring back the stacks. I just hope they don't try to that awful soup and cereal combo they used to serve. It was a mess pick to up.

I guess everything old is new agian.

all the best

Has technology advanced to the point that it no longer looks like a dog dish?

Originally wasn't the genie tray designed to serve hot meals on short routes i.e. LAX-SFO in the PSA days.
Could this mean a return to meals in routes other than transcon and intercontinental flights?

no it just means someone is tired of sitting on the Beer Bucket.

OK help a newbie Frequent Flyer out here. WTF is a Genie Tray???

Bob, you know you're not a newbie frequent flyer! A Genie tray is the stackable compartmentalized meal tray that was often used in coach to serve meals, both hot and cold. The food (if you want to be so bold as to refer to it as food) is prearranged into designated little indentations on the tray and they stack for transport and storage. Oh, and from what my airline friends have told me they have a horrible stench to them from years of use, and they're best use is to provide temporary seating in the galley.

SKD, you're just a wealth of information...buying old DC-9s from NWA and the return of genie trays. Who ever is your sorce?  😛

Bob, Genie trays are the old thermal trays used by Allegheny, Piedmont and USAir for inflight meals. They were designed to keep meals at serving temps for several ours....the time from the kitchens to shortly after takeoff.

Oh crap I forgot to look at the ID of the person starting the thread.

On second thought forget my questions since I know the author is a certifiable wacko.

skd, do us a favor and go :censored: 😱 , then you can go  :censored:. That is all.

Moderator time to bring out the lock. This case is closed 🙄

Genie trays returning? As what? Are we going to start serving food again?

Doesn't make sense. Where would they be stowed? The AB's don't have any place to put them.

A better use for them would be to make a tax write-off donation of them to a non-profit feeding center, like the Midnight Mission.

They are nasty, nasty, nasty. Hard to handle, time consuming to set up and don't make a very pretty presentation.

I'd need more information as to the plans but it doesn't sound like a very good idea.

From another recent post, US Airways flight attendants demostrate the correct use of genie trays as additional jumpseats.

Trust me folks, genie trays won't be coming back. Skd is just pulling our leg. 😉

Well it seems someone can't take the heat:

Deleted By Moderator--Please do not post PMs in the public forums. Thank you.

So let me get this straight, after the UA aircraft sale thread, dc9, and now genie tray thread you feel that you are so untouchable that no one can break your balls.

And your the one telling me to get a sense of humor.

If I had so much malice in my tone trust me I would not be using smilies.

So US Airways is bringing back PSA's smile, it's furloughed flight attendants, it's west coast presence, 757s in key roles... why not DC9s and genie trays. Now that is some real "USAir" heritage for you right there.

Next topic should be about the possible return of tan uniforms and ice cream sandwiches.

Nice to see some fun on here again! Where are all the funny posters who used to post here a couple years ago with funny pictures and captions?

Hey Flying Cat:

Thanks for posting my Pm to you for all to see. Classy!!

Of course, I was JOKING, do you really believe anything on these crazy boards are serious. If you are turning to this forums for some useful information, I suggest you look elsewhere.
Hey, here is a suggestion, if my thoughts upset you so much why don't you just hit the ignore button.

Did you hear that we are bring back the suncshine Florida service and they are planning on designating the last three rows as the new smoking session? Any thoughts on that?

Actually I heard to celebrate the merger they're going to reinstate The "Golden Sun" service to PHX with predeparture white wine and OJ service. The male F/As will be asked to wear the old brown checkered shirt with brown tie and the females will wear the old tan bolero...and also those orangy/brown serving vests we used to wear.
Love the picture. Remember the old maroon ones with the maroon coffee cup in teh upper right hand corner. Used to sit on a stack of 9 of those beauties in the back galley of the 727 smoking a cig....with the curtain pulled ofcorse 😉
Ah, the good old days!!!!

I think those flight attendants sitting on the trays are showing us the proper way to keep the trays warm.

My heart stopped when reading the title of this thread. The thought of bringing back those dog food bowls makes me break out in hives. Those were the grossest miserable things to handle. I thought some primitive Arctic culture would have bought them to build homes out of by now.
