Maybe a turbine Robby would be a good thing. Afterall it could scan for hot spots for the OMNR and maybe just maybe......now this is a strech.....lowtime guys would be considered for the job. Ok time to get back to reality.
is it just me or does that picture look like that old 47...what was it....a J model??
seriously, a friend just picked up a new 44 and said frank has a 500 sitting on the ramp that the engineers are pouring over. so i think this 66 idea is close......
When we were on the R44 course in California, the boys made it very clear that there would never be a turbine powered Robinson helicopter as it would make it cost prohibitive. Besides, it's still the best selling helicopter in the world right now so why bother?
Frank thinks like Buffalo Joe: turbine? What turbine?
They may (Robinson) not manufacture a turbine powered R44, but there is always the chance of an STC........like the 47 Soloys. Yes, it does look like a 47 J2A..........those were the days, real helicopters!!
At HAI Frank held a press conference that was a bit of a non event. He did mention a six place machine but only as a pipe dream. The focus for them is refining and improving the R44 and R22 line. He is entertaining the idea of an engine change but a turbine is the absolute last resort. He wants to keep his machines affordable to the average punter. He is leaning more towards diesel types. As for a 500 on the ramp I am sure Frank has a good comand of that type. He was at Hughes for years before he went out alone.
