Jet Blue opens new maintenance hangar at JFK Airport
Tuesday May 10, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) Jet Blue Airways has opened a new 45 (M) million dollar maintenance facility at John F. Kennedy Airport. The 140-thousand square foot complex will also hace offices for the discount airline.

Jet Blue says it will have 300 employees in the building.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg - who was on hand today for a ribbon cutting to the new building - says New York City's economy is growing across all five boroughs.

More than 35-thousand people are employed at J-F-K. Another nine thousand people work at LaGuardia.

Jet Blue is the top carrier at J-F-K Airport with about 23 percent of the passengers using the discount airline. Jet Blue operates 288 flights a day to 29 destinations in 12 states, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. The airline says it is planning a new 875 (M) million dollar passenger terminal with 26 gates at J-F-K.

Makes me wonder who is going to eventually take a look at the hanger that DL has recently vacated in DFW for a potential maintenance base.

JB or LUV?

Big deal!
A 2 bay hangar with fabric doors! WOW!

The same pomp and circumstance is planned for the new AA teminal at JFK!
Another WOW! Big deal to all this bull#@$#!

JB outsoucres ALL of its heavy maintenance. The hgr is primarily for the OTS aircraft that are usually parked in the ancient HANGAR 3 across the field. What do you think they are going to accomplish at this massive 2 bay hangar?

What kind of future expansions does JetBlue foresee by building just a 2 bay hgr at their main JFK base?

Continued outsoucing and LIVE TV repairs in the 2 bay hangar.

BIG DEAL TO NEW HANGARS AND TERMINALS WHOEVER BUILD EM!

THIS IS ALL DONE AT THE EXPENSE OF EMPLOYEE WAGES AND BENEFITS!

Size doesn't matter here, as much as location does. The hanger could have been built anywhere on JFK. Still, Jetblue decided to build it directly accross from our operation and added 10 ft Jeblue lettering in clear view of arriving and departing AA's flights and most importantly AA's hundreds of JFK employees.

Passengers don't know the differance between a hanger or a terminal. They only see the new building that says Jetblue.

Whew. For a moment there I thought B6 built a big hangar for airplane maintenance.

Must be some really large uniforms to hang on that hanger. B)

Size does matter. Where are your plans for the future shooting for 400-500 flights a day out of JFK when you only have foresight to build a 2 bay hangar?

They put the hangar there because it is a stone's throw from their terminal. They can tow aircraft back and forth and save fuel. And you're wrong! Passengers do know the difference between a hangar and a terminal. They see a garage for airplanes.

What kind of statement is that?

And like everybody else, it will show passengers from all carriers worldwide at JFK who taxi by this cute little hangar that JetBlue airplanes break down like any other aircraft.

By the way, a bulk of the 300 jobs at the hangar are being moved from the Forrest Hills headquarters to the hgr. They are office jobs! It has more office space than aircraft maintnenace related space for mechanics.

Another by the way for you, a neighbor two doors down from me works at JetBlue and supplied me with all this info.
Since he is in management, AAguila, maybe you would like a job there and he can help you through the process. He can get you assigned to the hangar and you can stare across the taxiways A and B at AA's terminal and throw stones and shake your fist and make funny faces.

Like I said, who give's a rat's ass about a cute little hangar or a pompous new terminal, whoever builds em!
OOOOOOOOOOH, this one built a hangar, that one built a terminal.....

WHO CARES?

Size does matter, just ask FLY!
