Scabs To The Rescue!

EAC99 said:
Ok people, I am in a very uncomfortable position. First of all, I will not cross the picket line and take away income away from a fellow mechanic, EVER! No matter how much I hate the unions, I would never cross the line. My question is, what do I do when these pieces of garbage are training where I work? I do not want to be cut-off from an airline opportunity because of where and when I work at my current employer. Is this situation of being "black balled" from anyone who has AMFA possible. I know that scab names and addresses have already been on several web sites. Thought it was rather humorous! I need some advice. HELP!!

Working at a facility that is being used to train scabs does not make you a scab. The NWA mechanics I know appreciate those, like yourself, who realize the damage that those who ARE willing to scab are doing to our profession, and would certainly not hold you responsible for the ethics of your employer. The only way to become a scab is to cross a picket line.

So with all this 'scab' talk and what not, lets suppose that UA PCE had in fact walked out. Could I, as an ex-employee, and ex-IAM member gone out to the airport and assisted my ex-fellow co-workers? Picket sign and all!

It's not that I agree with the union on 100%, I just agree with them more than I happen to agree with the current management structure, and any group that fights them I like! (You know the group of a/c owners who didn't wish to take any more cuts from UA and would rather seek the 'free' market for their goods.) Just Asking

Just another quick thought. Did not Frank Lorenzo do the same thing while preparing to duke it out with the IAM in late 1988 early 1989 preparing for a strike deadline of 12:01am March 4th 1989? Did he(Frank Lorenzo) not hire, train and badge scabs, having them ready to go when the IAM walked. He assumed that the ALPA and the TWU (who represented the F/A's) would cross the line and return to work. When the Pilots and the TWU honored the IAM's picket line, thus pushing Eastern into BK?

It can show when you play with fire, (training scabs and counting on everybody else to play along) you risk more than you think. Frank Lorenzo started his plan in the months before being released. His ultimate plan was to be released, to rid himself of the IAM, the mechanics and most of all--his arch rival Charlie B. The lead for the IAM at Eastern at the time.

Just curious as to when the date is or when they will ask to start the 30 days cooling off period again. I know they were ordered to keep talking, but how long is that supposed to go on for?

"Another officer, Executive Vice President Andrew C. Roberts, reported Thursday selling 11,847 shares of Northwest common stock. The transaction, disclosed in an SEC filing, was Roberts' first reported company stock sale since he was named to his post last fall."

I would say from the speed of stock sale ....SOON!
