Alabama Republican Senator Richard Shelby has put a blanket hold on all pending presidential nominations until a two earmark programs that would send billions of dollars to his state get back on track.

It will be interesting to find out if thee two programs are 'bridge to no where' items or is they are legitimate programs that are being held up for political reason.

One has to do with the USAF tanker competiton. Originally the contract was awarded to Northrup/EADS. However the DOD pulled the contract and it's been a mess ever since. Actually the entire program since day one has been a mess. Hope the senator is not holding his breath over it.

It's not the military, it's the procurment process. Anytime you mix large amounts of money and politics it is almost inevitable to come out messy.

Consider that this is further proof that the bloom is off the Obama rose as at least one member of the Senate has now decided that there is not much to lose in standing up to Obama lama ding dong.

Here's an angle no one seems to be looking at when it comes to this story. The KC-30 is based on the A330 built by Airbus. A good portion of the aircraft as most of us in aviation know is built in France. France being the same country that is selling one of the most advanced amphibious assault ships in the world to Russia.

I just see a little bit of irony in it. At the same time Sen Shelby is holding up nominations over the USAF tanker issue six of his fellow senators wrote a letter to the French ambassador complaining about the sale of a warship to Russia.
