Sheriff dumps helicopters (The Monterey County Herald)

In a cost-saving move, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office has suspended its use of two leased helicopters. Cmdr. Mike Richards said officials did not want to eliminate the program but were forced to as they face a budget shortfall of about $3 million for the fiscal year ending June 30.
