<_< ------ Interesting, and where there is a shortage of pilots, mechanics, follow for the same reasons . http://www.usatoday.com/video/index.htm?bctid=987203670001#/Demand+fast+growing+for+pilots/987203670001!

Exactly. It's an Embry Riddle infomercial masquerading as news.

The world will need more pilots in the next 20 years. Duh!

There may be a shortage of mechanics willing to work on the line for AA's poverty-level wages, but this video commercial has nothing to do with it (or an imaginary shortage of pilots).

<_< ------- FW, it's gratifying to see you finally acknowledge the fact that AA pays "poverty-level wages". 😀

FWAAA, and if we are using your income as comparison, you're probably right! 🙄

info commercial

I had the same reaction.

Out of all the "careers" the nerd was naming off, airline pilot is supposedly the most fulfilling and best paying. Right now, we have guys at this level LEAVING because they are worn out and tired of the BS. You can make more money and be home every night doing a lot of other things. I know guys that are in the other fields like corporate pilot and it is an exercise in suffering and misery, not to mention - a guaranteed divorce.

The other laughable moment came when the nerd gushed about his love of "freedom" from flying, then later touted "non-flying" jobs such as being a video game player "flying" a drone.

Then they just casually throw out that military option, as if you just say "I want to fly an F-22" and you are strapped into the cockpit of an advanced tactical fighter next week. Nevermind those little aptitude tests, thousands of other applicants, and astronaut physical you have to pass.

I'm surprised these guys escaped the Trekkie convention long enough to make the video.

<_< ------- Oh, I agree! The video is a joke!-------- But just the fact that USAtoday ran with it puts a curtain credibility to it in the eyes of the general public, even though we all know that credibility to be limited. That alone should put a kink in the tails of Airlines trying to settle contracts. --------- By the way FW, Embry Riddle is my Son's alma mater. 😉

I think that may be the first time I've seen "credibility" and "USA Today" used in that manner.

Most people I know take what they read in the McPaper with a huge grain of salt...

<_< -------- Well Eric, I won't say the General public is gullible, but I will say that USAtoday does have a fairly good size readership! And public perception is everything in this Industry!----- I think you'll agree on that!

I have noticed numerous times on this forum what whenever a news article is posted, if it has even the slightest mention of a labor friendly substance or labor positive slant, or even the "company is full of crap", the anti unionists here immediatley dismiss the author of the article, or the corporation that published it, as basically hacks who can't find real jobs..

But Boy-Oh-Boy, when a reporter is bashing the workers and unions in general, they respond "SEE, YOU PEOPLE ARE UNREALSITIC AND GREEDY..SEE WE TOLD YOU SO!"
And then if the article cites a anti union analyst, well that's the bible to them!

USA Today is one of the highest circulation newspapers in the world. They obviously deliver something of value to their readers and subscribers. Further, they are one of the youngest newspapers in the business.....they have a non-traditional newspaper business model that specializes in short sound bites, a few facts (accurate ones) but not much depth... but that is all the majority of the American public wants and/or is capable of comprehending.
.
Of course one strategy of coping with someone you disagree with is to discredit them.... but it is usually the credibility of the person doing the discrediting that is ultimately tarnished.
.
Intelligencia involves listening to many perspectives and being able to understand each message in its context and within the context of all those other messages.
.
USAToday doesn't pretend to do in-depth analysis of any subject or be an expert... it is a surface level, generalist newspaper - and it obviously does what it does well enough to be so well read.
.

What USAToday says about pilot needs is accurate... don't develop a business plan or a career around it, but it IS accurate.

I guess only Fox Business News with it's anti worker/anti union platform is patron saint of credibility.

<_< ------- I wouldn't through stones at any of them! There are many things I agree with that come out of Fox news, and many I don't! ------ We all have to judge our view points based on our own personal knowledge, and experiences, and that in many cases, is where we differ!!!

I watch various news and business shows, but when the Wisconsin "SCREW THE UNIONS GOVERNOR WALKER" was dominating all the news, the anti-worker folks at Fox were calling union members goons. Bashing union workers at every turn.
