In addition, with holiday shoppers in mind, the airline also announced special shopping spree holiday fares between New York La Guardia -- the airport closest to Manhattan -- and Boston and between New York's La Guardia airport and Washington's Reagan National airport. Effective Dec. 10-11 and Dec. 17-18, US Airways is offering fares of only $49** each way based on roundtrip purchase for tickets purchased through usairways.com between New York and Washington D.C. and between New York and Boston. No advance purchase is required.

"Leisure travel to New York City from Boston and Washington D.C. is not only popular during the holidays, but year round," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing. "Our restructured Shuttle fares leave customers more money to spend at their destination -- whether that's to see a great Broadway show, an exciting sports event or to enjoy some world-class shopping with family and friends. Reducing our Shuttle fares underscores our commitment to combining superior service with customer-friendly pricing."

US Airways and America West's recent merger creates the fifth largest domestic airline employing 35,000 aviation professionals. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express operate approximately 4,000 flights per day and serve more than 225 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.

They do the holiday shopping fares every year. The others are presumably in response to JetBlue et al, but they're quite restrictive.

And the best way to get your press release ignored? Issue it after 5:00 PM on a Friday. Someone should remind the idiots issuing (or often not issuing) the press releases nowadays in Tempe that the East Coast (where this press release is aimed) is in a different time zone.

Can't you make a constructive comment without having to use such an insulting word as "idiot?" Why do so many people on this board stoop to use such inflammatory language?

I agree. He should have said the short-sighted fools in Tempe do not know how to market the valuable customers located on the East Coast and they should take their head out of the desert sand and realize that they are not running a regional airline anymore.

Gonna have to get that time thing under control, especially when the bulk of the new US Airways' revenue comes from the eastern time zone---areas east of the Mississippi.
