Southwest Airlines has become Pittsburgh International Airport's third largest carrier after only three months of operation.

The airline picked up nearly 10,000 passengers in June, enabling it to climb past United Airlines to become the third busiest carrier, according to statistics released today by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. In all Southwest carried 67,104 travelers in June after starting service in Pittsburgh in May. Only long dominant US Airways, with 605,881 passengers, and Delta Airlines carried, with 71,526, carried more people.

The numbers bode well for Southwest as it considers additional service in Pittsburgh. It has announced that it plans to add more service in Pittsburgh this year, but has yet to announce specifics. It currently offers 10 flights a day to Philadelphia, Chicago, Orlando, and Las Vegas.

It stands to reason they may overtake DL with the addition of the extra PHL flight.
