Confirmed-- "C" check is being added in Dallas. From what we are hearing 40-60 new hires will be added. Start time is some time around Aug or Sep. Of course the "C" check positions will be posted internally, then they will back fill open positions with new hires. Get those apps in now guys.

Also hearing that the 4th line of heavy maint. will be started after getting the new "C" check line going. Numbers of 60-90 mechanics (new hires) will be needed for it. It all kind of adds up. If you all remember, I said in prior postings that our union has stated that we will have to hire hundreds of mechs. to maintain the mechanic to A/C ratio in our contract. If SWA hires the max numbers it comes to 150 mechanics to be hired for both new lines of maint. ( "C" check and 4th heavy line) This is right in line with the numbers to maintain contract issues, so it does add up.

Will be starting maint. in Denver and getting some hangers as well. No dates at this time. But this rumor has been in the rumor mill for some time now. Last we heard SWA was trying to negotiate around the inventory taxes in Denver as they are way too high. Guess they have worked around this now.

Alaska Airlines was a topic this past week as well. SWA was asked directly if we were looking at purchasing, aquiring, or merging with Alaska; SWA's responce was that they cannot answer any of those questions at this time. Mmmm. Same answer they gave for the same questions pertaining to AirTran. Very interesting, but I still believe SWA would buy Republic (Frontier) before Alaska, however, Gary Kelly has stated we are going to Hawaii and Alaska in the near future.

We also will be starting some new construction to exspand a couple of shops in Dallas, and also heard that SWA may be looking into adding some hangar space to handle up to 3 more A/C.

Gotta love the Rumor mills. Yeah they are rumors, but most rumors at SWA tend to come true in some form or fashion of the original rumor. BTW the "C" check confirmation (which was once a rumor) can be confirmed at AMFA11.com on the electronic bulletin board...

One final question; Who wants to put up with 6 months of probation at SWA to do what you really love??
One more hint: Heavy sheetmetal mechanics needed!! Later All...

Management came down to Hanger Ron and told us this update; "C" Check will start June 1st in Dallas. They said as many as 40-50 new hires will be hired off the street after everything settles down. The 4th line of heavy maint. will be started within a year, we were told more like 9 months. Look for the hiring for the fourth line to pretty much coincide with the "C" Check hiring as they will more than likely just blend together. As many as 70-90 new hires for the 4th line. HEAVY SHEETMETAL MECHANICS are encouraged to apply. If your a metal head guru, you may have a better chance with your experience... Good Luck to all. Get those resumes in now guys, there is no longer the "mechanics hiring pool" at SWA. They now look at all fresh and new ones as well as the ones that are within 6 months. Also check southwest.com under carreers DAILY to see when to apply
