Stations Closing?

saw on usatoday.com that FWA,TOL and Lex may be permanently closed due to Shuttle america leaving the USAirways network. Anyone know if this is true?

why would they close LEX? Piedmont serves LEX and I'm pretty sure a contract jet operator is scheduled to go in there.

I have not heard that any of them will close. Shuttle America is being phased out because they operate turboprops and US Airways will probably upgrade the service to RJs.

The company could eiher slow the retirement of the Dornier 328 (32 seats) or put Dash 8s (37 seats, a bit of an upgrade) in that come available through jet replacement.

Despite the new plan, Express consolidation and turboprop issues havent been addressed. U nor its affiliates operate any jets in the 30 seat range, and many markets cant support larger.

I know TOL and LEX can support larger than 30 seats, TOL was mainline less than 3 years ago. After that, ERjs then DH8s now Saabs.

It may not be the most popular of destinations but I know that FWA supports a steady diet of RJs from other airlines. I've seen the occasional full sized jet there as well.

i know tol is 201 , i do a lot of business from Toledo and dont wanna change carriers, i love the service I get.

PIT-FWA is 263 miles (228 nm).

263.....kinda close for a 50 seat RJ, but doable.

My opinion only, if I were a manager and scheduler: unless the city has a MSA population of over 500,000 I would not run a RJ to that city if it was within 250 miles of my hub.

Or unless I knew the city was the HQ to a major corporation.

In fact I think the opposite is true. Shuttle America took a better deal elsewhere...no need to reduce the number of contract carriers, looks like they're leaving of their own volition!!!

Today we had 2 heavily booked PIT trips take lengthy MTC delays. Shuttle America is getting to be as undependable as Mesa or PSA. Let United put up with them!!!!!!!
