What is the numbering system for US fleets?

HP is the following
N15xAW , N17xAW, and N3xxAW are all 737-300 (last -200 left in February)
N6xxAW are A320
N8xxAW are A319
N9xxAW 757-200

all tail numbers for HP end in AW. The AW number range is shared with Air Wisconson. So if you see a N4xxAW on paper, it's not HP.

Trivia tid bit: There are three ex-Piedmont aircraft in the 737 fleet
exN312p/N583US is N324AW
exN309P/N582US is N325AW
exN306P/N579US is N326AW However, they are scheduled to leave the fleet after the merger.

Our current fleet numbering is as follows:

101-124 are A320's
161-188 are A321's
3xx are 733's
4xx are 734's
5xx are 733's (old long range with aux tanks and video equipment)
600-617 are 757's (overwater)
618-633 are 757's
645-656 are 767's
670-678 are A330's
700-723 are A319's (overwater)
724-770 are A319's
775-784 are 734's (used to be overwater equipped)

Our fleet of airplanes mostly end with US, UW or AU.

US isn't as clean/simple as HP, so here goes:

FLEET REG. (NUMERIC) REG. (ALPHA)
A320 N10X - N12X US, UW
A321 N16X - N18X US, UW
B733 N3XX US, AU
B734 N4XX US
B733 N5XX US, AU
B757 N60X - N63X AU, VJ
B767 N64X - N65X US
A330 N67X US, UW
A319 N700 - N770 US, UW
B734 N775 - N785 AU

NXXXUS - US Airways (NW uses it for 'United States') NOTE1
NXXXAU - Gold (Chemical symbol - apeared on New B733 in the 80's)
NXXXVJ - VistaJet (Allegheny Marketing for DC-9s) NOTE2
NXXXUW - UnitedWolf? (Appeares on Airbus Fleet) NOTE3

NOTE1 - With that said, both airlines back in the 90's bought up any remaining 'US' registrations for their own use. Needless to say, we've had lists over the years with each others resistrations listed as their own (by mistake of course)....
NOTE2- The only 'VJ' left is N625VJ. The rest of the B757 fleet is 'AU'; however, someone else (helicopter) has N625AU and I beleive NW has N625US.
NOTE3 - I'm not sure about the origins of 'UW'. It's used intermittenly with 'US' for the Airbus fleet. Others may have a better idea for this designation.

Possible solution to registration numbers for combined US/HP.
Do another deal with Air Wisconsin to buy their registrations and use them to re-number the US fleet . Its only equitable since the surviving name is US Airways.

psakid -

Great synopsis! I was told that the VistaJet (VJ) came about in the late 1970's when Allegheny wanted to dump the "Agony" name in favor of something less regional. Vista Jet was considered as the new name for the airline, but USAir won out. Not that it mattered. It's still a regional airline with a regional mentality and Unfortunately Still Allegheny-airways.

I hope Parker can change things.

I always figured UW was US AirWays.

Were the DC9 "Vistajets" the only fleet Allegheny/USAir/Airways ever had a name for? I know PSA called thiers "Smiliners" and "Grinningbirds". And Piedmont's were "Pacemakers?'
