Tense Southwest flight to Manchester

The final hour of a Southwest Airlines flight to Manchester was a little tense during the weekend after the plane lost cabin pressure and 131 passengers had to wear oxygen masks.

"All of a sudden, you had a pretty significant popping of the ears, then the oxygen masks came down," Dr. Christopher Newton, a passenger, said.

The problem affected Southwest Flight 530 Sunday night from Las Vegas to Manchester.

When the pressure dropped, the pilot descended rapidly to a lower altitude to bring the pressure back up to safer levels, FAA spokesman Jim Peters said.

Heard about this in class. Never happened to me in a flight, but if it did, I'd probably put on the mask and then turn to the person next to me saying, "Sorry, I'd been holding it in since the security check point."
