According to AVIATION WEEK & SPACE TECHNOLOGY Feb 03 issue, The US Transportation Dept. awarding six highly prized slot exemptions at Reagan Washington National Airport, attributed to AirTran Airways a power more often associated with Sowthwest Airlines-an immediate competitive impact in it''s markets through low-fare service. Approving two daily Boeing 717 round trips between DCA and AirTran''s choice of FFL,RSW and PBI; the department said it also expects the new-entrant carrier''s presence to discipline the fares in other Florida markets served from DCA.
