Interesting article. It fails, however, to discuss the UK's debt problem, which if you count as a percentage of GDP, it is far worse than the US's debt problem. You think the dollar had a big drop in 2007, just wait for the pound's drop in 2008.

Don't be so surprised. After WWII the Britain was effectively bankrupt with its economy in shambles. It took years for it to recover and when it finally did the 1970's rolled around. Once again the British economy took some hard hits. Look at what happened to once proud industries in Britain. England used to be a producer of commercial aircraft; Britain stopped producing large commercial aircraft years ago. The last commercial aircraft built by them was the Avro RJ which ceased production in 2002. Then there's the British auto industry. While the US auto industry has gone through rough times it has faired better than the one in the UK
