The first executive duty for both men is likely to be signing off on the company''s bankruptcy filing. A Chapter 11 filing, which would put AMR in the company of United Airlines (nyse: UAL - news - people ) and US Airways (otc: UAWGQ - news - people ), would hardly be unexpected. AMR narrowly won $1.8 billion in wage and benefit concessions from its three unions last week, only to have the deal stumble on revelations that top executives would still get bonuses and other benefits in the event of a bankruptcy filing. Carty later apologized for not telling workers about those plans, but it wasn''t enough. AMR secured $1.5 billion in debtor-in possession financing in late March.
