American Airlines has came to the determination that Flex Vacation will be eliminated Effective January 1, 2015 for All TWU-represented employees.

This was the reply from David Virella:

Subject: 29(d) Grievance Article 8 violation

Dear Jim:

In accordance with Article 29 (d) of the AA/TWU Agreement, please accept this communication as official notice of the violation listed below:

Violation of Article 8 ( C ) 1 of the M&R Collective Bargaining Agreement and 8 (d) 1 of the MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement between American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union. This communication would also include all of the other TWU Represented Bargaining Agreements that exist on the LAA property with regard to the issue of Flex Vacation.

On June 5, 2014, the company informed the TWU of planned changes via a letter titled Re: Flexible Vacations 2015. The basic context of that letter stated that the proposed changes were due in part to the ongoing merger related activities at the company and that management had reviewed the Flex Vacation Policy and decided to eliminate that policy effective January 1, 2015. Pursuant to the specific bargaining agreement violations captioned above, it is the position of the TWU that this letter constitutes a unilateral change to the bargaining agreements outside of negotiations. Furthermore, it is also the position of the Transport Workers Union that the appropriate venue to have had these discussions was during the most recent 1113 Bankruptcy negotiations.

Lastly, Flex Vacation has been a long standing benefit to the TWU membership that is wholly self-funded by those who utilize the requested vacation time. The TWU disputes the decision made by the company with regard to Flex Vacation and we hereby grieve and appeal this matter under the terms of Article 29d. Due to the high profile nature and importance of this issue, we request American Airlines to reconsider its decision. Failure to reach a satisfactory solution will result in the TWU taking this dispute to expedited 29(d) arbitration.

So much for the current TWU vote regarding picking flex vacation with earned vacation based on seniority.

This grievance will be filed along with the retiree travel issue.

keep on screwing... then its time to really make a big pain to the company... work by the rule book   if the plane goes late  so be it..

The IAM gets pushed around plenty by management, Kev.

Working Class America gets pushed around because they've bought into the idea that "they're just lucky to have a job."

Capital wins because we continue to let them.

They don't need your help.

And yet, even among unionized employees "capital" is making gains-Boeing, Caterpillar, General Electric, Lockheed Martin, as a few examples. GE has moved out of states like PA and into TX because they are RTW states and don't need to offer as much in vacation and other benefits.

Not taking a stand on this either way, but how many people are still buying flex weeks?...

I can see it being useful for the guys with only two weeks of VC, but it's almost as easy to TL or CS off the week, and pick up shifts to balance it out as opposed to taking the hit in the paycheck every week over the course of the year.

I agree here totally, it may be nice to have the extra week but you really are just cs'ing with your self. You pay for this week every pay check. Just working a little O/T or a CS you can just as easily just give the day away.

Since people give the money to AA to hold each week look at it this way. All that money is in an account. Who gets the interest on that money? NOT the employees so why let aa make even more money from us.

Why make a big deal of a money loan to aa to profit from. If they don't have this ability in Tulsa maybe you should see about getting a cs policy instead it works very well on the line.

(1) The Company will post requests for Flex vacation preference for the following year on Company bulletin boards or other appropriate methods. Flex vacation bidding will commence on November 15th with all bidding completed no later than December 15th. word per word in the new agreement a clear violation...

In Tulsa we can't take off for any reason, have to use vacation so it's a huge deal to us
