Obama used it to neutralize his chance for a presidential challenge....ala NSA eavesdropping.
What was it Hillary said, 'the politics of personal destruction'?

By the way. Do you honestly beleive the GOP is going to nominate the former head of the CIA who had an affair on his wife? How eactly do you think that would play for the family values crowd? Not to mention that you have the head of an inteligence agaency who was subject to black male due to his infidelity.traderjake said:"Speaking in the Rose Garden to reporters, Mr. Obama said he did not fire General McChrystal for critical comments about him and his staff in Rolling Stone magazine, nor out of any sense of personal insult. Rather, the president cited the need for his team to unite in pressing the war effort."

GOP was never going to run him any more than they would run Santorum or Gingrich.

Insane amounts of ammunition being bought for homeland security (more than has been expended in the last 10 years by the military in active combat operations) not to mention large purchase of "urban operation" vehicles that were originally designed to counter IED's and enemy operatives, illicit border crossing gun running schemes, a burning desire to disarm the civilian population, a definite shift in foreign policy to the point of alienating long time allies and giving care bear hugs to long time enemies, and socialization of health care industry.
There is another time in history when we have witnessed similar political tactics, military chain of command adjustments to "unite" the military leadership into a specific line of thought and using branches of government to pressure the media and intimidate or discredit opposing political viewpoints. The first time it happened was to facilitate the transfer from democratic elected positions into dictatorship positions and the consolidation of power and removal of opposing political groups........but it's just a coincidence that the current U.S. leadership would have so many direct comparisons to the early years of another charismatic leader right?
Both leaders have also been named as Time magazines man of the year. Boy I hope the second man of the year being discussed does not complete the parallels he currently shares with the first man of the year!

"Nine generals and flag officers have been relieved of duty under Obama just this year – widely viewed as an extraordinary number – and several sources put the total number of senior officers purged during the five years of the Obama administration as close to 200."
