Although DL has owned the Trainer refinery for less than a year and operated it post-Sandy at full capacity for only a couple months, DL is noting that the crack spread for jet fuel in NYC has inverted relative to diesel where jet fuel now has a lower price due to the increase in supply.

DL notes that about 1/4 of Trainer's feed will come from ND crude and that DL is looking at shipping Trainer output to the Midwest where the crack spread remains high.

Of course, pushing the crack spread down helps all airlines in the region but DL notes that it is the largest non-military purchaser of jet fuel in both NYC and in the US as a whole so reductions in the price of jet fuel will disproportionately help DL.

Opening of the expanded and renovated T4 is part of DL's push to increase its presence in NYC helped by lower fuel costs at the region's preferred airports for local passengers even while UA continues to tout its hub at EWR which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
