Tricks and Treats Pickets Planned

Instead of Tricks or Treats, it will be Pickets and Protests for US Airways Flight Attendants across the country on Halloween, October, 31, 2006!

Flight Attendants represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) will demonstrate their frustration with management of US Airways with Halloween Protests and Informational Picketing nationwide on Halloween, October 31, 2006!

Join your fellow AFA members, labor leaders, and union activists on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 in a Halloween protest and informational picketing at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Phoenix Picket Info

When: Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Where: Terminal 4 Sky Harbor Airport

Fellow US Airways Flight Attendants will picket and protest on Halloween at the US Airways bases in Boston, Charlotte, New York – LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. Stay tuned for upcoming e-lines and updates on specific times and locations at these bases.

We will protest the same old "nothing-for-labor" tricks by the management team of US Airways, and will begin to protest management's empty promises and no-cost-increase contract rhetoric.

Doug Parker, Scott Kirby, and other top executives pocketed multi-million dollar treats for themselves with stock option payouts, while telling low-wage flight attendants that there is no money for their contract. It’s all tricks and no treats for the flight attendants!

Flight Attendants at America West Airlines are among the lowest paid in the industry and US Airways Flight Attendants have endured years of painful concessionary wage and benefit cuts.

If management is successful in their no cost contract rhetoric it would mean further cuts in contract benefits and pay to America West Flight Attendants and US Airways Flight Attendants.

The successful merger between America West Airlines and US Airways can not be complete without reaching a fair and industry competitive single contract for all flight attendants of the new US Airways.

Flight Attendants from Northwest Airlines will join our picket as a sign of Solidarity in the fight against corporate greed and we will conclude our Halloween protest by joining with our fellow NWA union brothers and sisters in a Solidarity CHAOS Informational Picket at Terminal 3 from 11:15-12:00 noon.

Additional Informational Picketing and other Solidarity Events will be scheduled in the upcoming months.

Good luck picketing in PHL with out a permit. THANKS LAURA. Is Mike Flores going to do anything about this since she is not capable? Maybe she is busy flying.

What do you want to bet LA in PHL tries to cry "Well it was too hard!" or "No one would have come anyway" She better hope this event is a sucess as it's failure is a direct result of her lack of leadership skills. Her job is to represent, inspire, protect and motivate the membership. Skills in which she knows nothing about.

What so we expect to be the benefit of this?

I guess the benefit of picketing would be to show management and especially those negotiating on behalf of the company that we the front line employees are mad as hell and are standing firm on the NO COST NEUTRAL crap. The voice other than those negotiating FOR us will be heard by management if we really get out there. With a permit anyway....good luck PHL. Has she applied for the permit yet?

sky high states: Why isnt ANYTHING POSTED ON THE AFAUSAIRWAYS.ORG website?

ONLY HERE ON THE WESTSIDE? http://www.afa66.org/

anyone?

only posting opinions.

We can hope it leads to a long and unending vacation for those who participate. Picketing does nothing but make the picketers feel good, and pisses of customers. Good luck with your pity party.
Frankly, I don't care what the customers think of me picketing. They have not been through what we have been through, and if they cannot agree, just move past the line of picketers and check in....

It's about visibility. The courage, maybe, to stand up and say we have an interest in our future, and are not happy with the pace and quality of current negotiations.

I really do not think the FA's expect to gain huge raises and huge improvements to work rules because we turned a measly profit one quarter, but we certainly need to stand up and say that we will not be accepting more concessions in the new, merged contract. Make it work with what you have, we have given more than our share. For me, it's more about management seeing a united front, than what the passengers think.

If we wanted to have a pity party, we would have had that sometime after the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round of givebacks. So, no, it's not a pity party.

Got a problem with it? Spin on by, Spindoc! ;)

Picketing is allowed and protected by law.

This is not slavery times SpinDoc.

Sad as it may be - Pissing of customers is the only thing that management understands and it is thier actions that make this type of display needed.

Whoa Chief. That's a pretty extreme position. Nobody is advocating slavery here. Picketing is indeed allowed and protected, but it really makes the union members look foolish and greedy. The customer does not give a hoot about wages or working conditions. They want inexpensive, reliable transportation, not sign boards and chanting employees blocking their entrance to the airport terminal.

Oh please. Most customers want one thing: a cheap fare. They could not care less whether their round trip flight is on 4 different carriers, as long as it is still $49 each way. That is reality. Couldn't care less if they think I am greedy, I know that I am not.

Again, visibility is key here. Media reports, etc, letting the *company* know that we are interested in a better quality of life, not just ready to roll over and take the next concessionary cr@p contract that comes down the pipe. Get it?

You thing the average Joe would be "so mad" that he had to walk around or thru picketers, that he would never fly US again? Think again, Spin. If the price is right, the average leisure will be back..again and again. Tis the era of priceline....

I don't understand the significance of a halloween protest. It's probably not a high travel day so you may not get much visibilty. Why not on Thanksgiving eve, then you can call it "pickets and gobbles" or the "stuffing of protests".

It's been all treats for management in this merger while flight attendants have been left holding an empty bag of broken promises and stagnant contract negotiations talks. It's time to Picket!

Also on the latest from AFA West:

The company's insulting Training section proposal overshadowed a Tentative Agreement on a ground breaking EAP section. In addition to Training and EAP sections, we traded additional proposals and counter proposals on Moving Expenses, and LOD/O (Language of Destination/Origin) sections.
The company's Training counter proposal kept the 3 hours pay per day for recurrent training but eliminated the "credit" application of that pay. That means you would get paid just a flat 3 hours for one day of recurrent, however, that pay would not apply to your credit values in a month. The east contract provides a flat rate of $60.00 per day of training.

This was an insulting proposal from the company. Our Training proposal included improvements-for both Flight Attendant groups-in the areas of pay, minimum rest requirements for training, and options for bidding training. The company's proposal was also void of any creative bidding options and other improvements. We will give the company a counter-proposal in the next round of talks in Charlotte later this month.

Our EAP section secured improvements in Drug and Alcohol testing procedure safeguards and installed a structured Professional Standards process. The Tuesday, October 17 AFA Update will provide more details on our EAP section agreement and this weeks negotiations.

The EAP tentative agreement is not in place until we reach an agreement on all sections and you vote to ratify a new contract.
