What measures have(OR HAVE NOT) been taken to thwart an attempt by a terrorist, working on a catering truck, from putting a 44 Magnum, in a rear lav, that another terrorist could retrieve, and totally disable a cockpit crew ??

Yeah, you're right about a renegade employee. There are a number of employees already in place who could be terrorists, or would aid them.

Back to curtains................a Kevlar ballistic curtain hung or attached to the cockpit backwall would bullet proof the cockpit against the inevitable gun assault. And, when the cockpit door is open and the food cart barrier is up, any kind of curtain strecthed across the forward aisle would make any assault more of a guessing game. An assault at that time is the best way to get into the cockpit, but it would have to be very precise and well-timed. Lack of visibility would be a big hindrance.
