What's new

TWU negotiations.........what?

So much for recalling AMT's to ensure an overwhelming "Yes" vote on any tentative contract.

So I gather that you think we are bent-over and willing to accept American's offer. You do realize NWA's offer to it's AMT's was a topout at 25.83 an hour at the time of walkout. Why should AMT's shoulder the task of a failing airline and restore it to profitabilty. That is the job of operation and maintence management not me.And by the way NWA still went under anyway only to be obsorbed now by Delta. With as you know will result in more lay-off's and downsizing in the future after the merger. So you must have faith in this maintence leadership can solve this problem by only giving you 3 DAT'S a year and your medical/dental and retire medical/dental be turn over to the TWU under a VEBA system after the siging of a contract with a outside letter. It will restore your benefits and not freeze your pension, due too a LC carrier that is destine to fail, and yet they continue to take AMR stock and sell it.It's not a question of kool-aid it is a question of fairness and truth and honesty.Nothing against you personally. And there is no venting my friend. You on the other hand seem to be venting against AMFA.Just for the record I am for any union or organzation that will restore my benefits that were taken from me,while I watched upper management reap huge bonus's and pay level's.And while maintence continue's to help the bottom line of AMR.I and my fellow AMT's are not bent in fact we have been waiting for this fight for 4 long years.Us longshanks are itching for a good old fashion labor unrest.I will see them in hell before I give anything back again...

What you saw NWA do was permanently replace its mechanics with scab labor, and the striking mechanics took a much worse deal to end their strike that had no chance in hell to begin with.

So if AA said they were going to close all the overhaul bases, all the class II stations and layoff a third of what was left the mechanics still shoudnt strike? That would still leave me with a job, how about you?

Of the 800-1000 mechs at NWA now, less than 100 are not scab labor. Is that the knid of situation you would put the American mechanics in?

AA is having enough trouble getting recalls back. There arent enough mechanics out there for AA to do what NWA did. Why do you think all these other airlines are sending their work to AA? AA is even doing line maintenance for other carriers because they cant get mechanics.

All of the spoken toughness of the NWA mechanics through AMFA was nullified by the company's preparations. For all the grief it caused the mechanics, there was no serious harm done to NWA due to their preparations I mentioned and NWA's political connections to keep the FAA off their collective posterior. There was, however, plenty of damage done to our trade and the wage scales. NWA was successful. Put down the Kool Aid.

Only in the minds of those who dont look at it for what it was. NWA and the AFL-CIO were successful at intimidating the uninformed and the meek and taking the momentum out of AMFA. If AMFA had not struck do you think NWA would have any more than the 800 to 1000 mechanics they still have? By sticking to "full pay till the last day" those thousands of workers (lets not forget that the company wanted to eliminate ALL the non-A&P jobs at AMFA) who would have lost their jobs either way had the opportunity to bank an extra $40,000 that we had already given up. NWA remains a failing airline and will soon be history, while they pretend they were victorious the fact is the strike is a contributing factor to their demise. NWA will no longer exist but the mechanics have moved on.

The fact is that mechanics today, despite the massive cuts we have seen are still better off because of AMFA. Our hourly rate is higher than it was prior to 2000, the same can not be said for all the other TWU represented workers. AMFA raised the bar. I would rather take a 25% paycut from $35/hour than a 25% paycut from $25/hr.

I read and still can't believe what kind a A Holes are on this site. You could care less of any member other that yourself. AMFA sure raised the bar. Opened the door for layoffs. Some people would rather have a job. No job pays 0. Don't need a paycut then. Fact is most of you are gone. By to you soon one day.

How much or what do you propose I further sacrifice to save you? Or even further sacrifice to save myself?

We gave away the farm and you say I am still soon gone anyway.

Your own posting underscores the stupidity in the concessions for jobs theory.

twufleetman's alias speaks loudly as to where his mentality is. First, he insinuates he is a fleet service clerk.

He is correct though that AMFA did in fact raise the bar. AMFA, since he mentions AMFA, was created to PROTECT the AMT craft. Not erode it with concessions with NO snap back. twufleetman is nothing more than another kirk wells. Ah, the Rocket Scientist that Senior Wells was.

"Fact is most of you are gone." Is that so? I am sorry to hear you state that in the tone you are using. I do not wish anyone to lose their job. But I REFUSE to give more concessions so AA can lay off AGAIN. Listen, if you want to give up more pay & benefits that is your right. As a twufleetman I would expect nothing else from your mind set. But as a skilled AMT I will not subsidize cheap airfares any longer. Now go back to the shadows you reside in and allow AMTs to fight for our craft & profession. 😉

At this point, concessions for jobs is your reality. From your previous posts I know you will choose to ignore this reality and fight on to the bitter end, but I'm going to make the point anyway. Your destiny is entirely in your own hands. AA is not certainly doomed to success or failure. That's up to employees and management and how well the two groups can come together to survive this crisis. I'm not one-sided on this: management should chuck its payouts out and tie future payouts to profitability. Payouts for non-management should be the same, so everyone is playing by the same rule book.

The reality is your gonna pay more for a plane ticket and that extra bag!!!!!!!!

Absolutely. I accept that. I pay double for gas today relative to what I was paying two years ago. And I'm paying more for plane tickets.

Raising fares is a more intellectually honest way of passing on higher fuel costs to customers, but I understand that airlines can't raise them far or fast enough without killing demand, hence the nickel and dime fees.
