It seems the TWU, with managements blessing, has begun a propaganda campaign to convince the membership it would be foolish to follow in the path of Eastern Airlines unions. A mandatory meeting was called in a turbine building shop to view a video describing how the unions brought down the airline and how we should avoid repeating their demise. A Q&A afterward was described as a "Jerry Springer" event. After the proper methods are devised to get this message out in a more palatable way without rebuttal, I'm sure we'll all get the chance to view this cinematic masterpiece. If anyone has gotten to see this video, please fill us in.

Actually sounds like election interference with the incumbents about to get booted. 😉 Trying to put some fear out there to keep away a more radical bunch from being elected.

birdman,

Thanks for the "heads up"

UNFORTUNATELY, no matter how bad, the next offer is...up to and including a RANCID offer, TULSA, and KC...will vote it in, and to a somewhat lesser degree, the FSC will do the same, thanks in large part to DFW.

The voting HISTORY (for ALL 3 unions)for employees in Texas, Kansas city, and Okla., ......"does not lie".

Its SAD even TRAGIC, but alas...TRUE !!!

Sound like interference with the election in Tulsa. Does the Dept. of Labor know this is going on?

Was this movie titled "Collision Course" by any chance...?
Was it a borrowed a copy from APFA?

The video is indeed "Collision Course".

Overland Resource Group presented this video several months ago to specific traning groups. My reaction to the video is that management of Eastern shafted their employees even while "working together". Some TWU Stooges viewed it completely different and it feared them into submission.

The reaction to the video from the fear mongering TWU stooges has led to a base wide mandatory viewing, timed during the TWU Local Election Cycle to attempt to influence incumbent re-election and Overland's continued Contract for Consulting Fees.

My understanding is that the fear based video being shown by management and their "working together" counter partner is not going as well as they had hoped. Maybe there is hope for Tulsa afterall.

"Informer"

"Hope for Tulsa afterall" ??

I hope to GOD, that someone will prove(my next statement) WRONG. (TRUST me, It will be an HONOR to be called Wrong)

Anyway, here goes;

"There is NO hope for TUL, and there will NEVER be" !!!!!!!

The "majority" of the voting members there, are ADDICTED to the TASTE of the Companys A$$.

My heart TRUELY goes out to the TUL members WHO "do stand up, and are counted"

But alas, the TUL majority are "sackless" COWARDS !!!!!!!!

TUL should observe there brothers in AFW, if there interested in "thinking" about "beginning" to "slowly" begin to question AA !!!!!!!

Haven't seen the movie yet, though I've heard about it and it is a "manadatory" thing.

If it's as I've heard, they forgot at least three things:

1) Frank Lorenzo is barred from ever managing an airlne again.
2) Pension funds are now in irrevocable trusts - no more siphoning "excess" contributions as Lorenzo did at Eastern.
3) A Chapter 11 filing is rather unpalatable now due to the new laws effective October 2005. It's now an almost guaranteed trip to Chapter 7, or so others have opined.

Again, if I've been told correctly, the movie is full of misinformation as outlined above (and, no doubt more) and constitutes nothing but scare tactics. However, even if a complaint is made about these tactics, as another suggested, don't expect any agency under the present administration to act, considering their love of unions.

At first the manager and his buisness Biatch said it wasnt mandatory but when someone asked why we were having to sign in they admitted it was mandated by the plt. This would explain why there was a pitch in the video to vote for the incumbents in the upcoming election.

One part of the video had a HOW WE ARE LIKE EASTERN and a HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT THAN EASTERN list.
What they failed to point out on the different list is that our production has NEVER been as low as the disgruntled Easter mechanics and is probably closer to the working together Eastern mechanics production and thats before all this working together rah rah started. We had a working together program years ago called the achiever program. Now they want the same program without the awards.
Another thing that wasnt mentioned in the Eastern video was PSP bonuses. When the two guys running the meeting were asked about why this wasnt put on the different list they told everyone to go to some website and it would explain the bonuses. When this didnt please the crowd the the (supposedly) union counterpart said the bonuses would be a bargaining chip for us come contract time. When asked how, he was stumped for an answer so someone said why dont we double their bonuses and we will have an even bigger bargaining chip.
About all this video did was slap in the face all the people who come to work and do their job that dont need some silly working together slogan to be productive!

I agree, the company's attempt to cower Tulsa employee's into maintaining an uneven Working Together program thru fear is nothing but a slap in the face. A veiled threat. It is having the opposite affect as employees become more enraged than ever.

My interpretation is that Eastern mechanics had a better more equal program than we now have and management blew it by ordering planes they could not afford. In the end the airline comes back to the mechanics with hat in hand begging for even more concessions. Even a second time the mechanics union is willing to sacrifice if certain conditions are met. Instead of agreeing Management screws the workers by selling to Lorenzo because they can't get concessions on their terms.
The workers always pays for management incompentence!

This Working Together plan we have been forced to be a part of is far different. We sacrifice-management does not and then we get pie-in-the-sky promises(come contract time everythings goint to be ok)from people who have been back dooring us for the last three years. I say BS. They screwed us before and they'll screw us again. If Tulsa's employees are naive enough to trust the same old bunch of scoundrels that lied to them in the past then they deserve the screwing they'll get.

The answer is to clean house-vote out EVERY INCUMBENT and then if the membership wants to entertain the thought of a Working Together process it can be under more fair terms set up by union officers that actually represent our best interests. SEND A LOUD AND CLEAR MESSAGE, OUT WITH ALL INCUMBENT UNION OFFICERS!

We're mad as hell and we are not going to take it any more.

American Airlines and the Overland Resource Group are making Union Men out of Cowards in Tulsa.

The more the company pushes the "Company Unionism", the more unified the workforce becomes against it.

Keep up the good work Overland, you will have a revolution on your hands yet!

The video "Collision Course" came out in 1987. There is no doubt the timing of this video's mandatory screening is directly related to union elections and the expected contentious negotiations this fall. What was the moral of Collision Course? Sacrifice, work hard, take ownership, and all will be lost?  How about a video of the success of Southwest Airlines and how they value, respect, and reward their employes's hard work?
