Now, Lynn Brown of Hankey Farms, who has been faithfully supporting and taking care of his family for many years, needs a little bread and some care for himself.
Partially handicapped, Lynn had worked for US Airways to bring in money to support his wife, Susan, son, Matthew, 22, and daughter, Samantha, 19, all of whom have cerebral palsy and are confined to wheelchairs.
Unfortunately, about 2 1/2 years ago, Lynn hurt his back at work and became disabled, which was just the beginning of the family's troubles.
He was unable to make his mortgage payments, and that is when attorney and CPA Fred Liechti in Oakdale began helping.
Although Liechti was succesdul in stopping foreclosure proceedings on their home twice, now a sheriff's sale has been scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7.
To make matters worse, US Airways denied Lynn's initial worker's compensation claim, and he had no health insurance coverage for awhile.
Even after he received the coverage, the family's troubles kept continuing.
When Lynn scheduled his badly needed hip surgery, doctors also determined that Lynn needed open-heart surgery prior to the hip surgery. He ended up having post surgical complications, at one point actually flat-lining for five minutes.
He was life-flighted from Beaver Medical Center to Presbyterian Hospital, where for five weeks he remained on life support but began to recover.
Now in Kindred Hospital in Oakdale, he has been diagnosed with diabetes. He has no feeling in his left leg and is fighting a number of infections.
Although he is expected to recover from the open-heart surgery, his recovery will take time and he still needs the corrective hip surgery.
In the meantime, the Brown family is in dire straights.
