Two U.S. Airways planes were evacuated this morning at Reagan National Airport after the planes' wings clipped, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said.

Courtney Prebich, a MWAA spokeswoman, said that the two planes -- a U.S. Airways Airbus A319 headed to LaGuardia Airport and a smaller U.S. Airways Express regional jet on the way to Rochester, N.Y. -- were in an area at the north side of the airport waiting for their turn at the runway when the collision occurred.

The smaller jet -- operated by regional carrier Republic Airways -- was carrying 21 passengers in taxi mode toward the runway when it clipped the wing of the larger aircraft and became lodged there, according to Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for U.S. Airways.

Emergency response vehicles evacuated a total of 63 passengers from the two planes onto buses and took them to the airport terminal, where they were booked onto later flights, officials said. One passenger complaining of back pain after the collision was taken to a nearby hospital for examination, Prebich said.

There were no serious injuries and damage to the planes was slight, officials said. Other flights were not delayed because of the incident.

Rader said the airline had not yet determined why the planes colllided. The National Transportation Safety Board is also looking into the cause of the collision.

Reminds me of another "merger".

If anyone wanted to know...all DCA/PHX and DCA/LAS flights were at 92% load factor total out of the capacity available...I arrived into DCA at 6pm and saw both of the airplanes parked next to the hangars US has at DCA...

Geeze,

The wingspan of a E-170/175 is pretty short, they had to be damn close to have clipped another aircraft. I know Reagan has some tight corners, but...

Ya' know, I'll bet if we study really hard on this, we can figure out a way to make this incident some teenager in Tempe's fault, can't we?

Let's see. This happened yesterday, so it is a pretty good bet that the pilots are no longer at the airport. Now let's suppose that the local police showed no interest in interviewing them before they left the airport, even though they were present for hours thereafter.

Now what if the highly respected New York Post, taking a break from their daily Brittany update, reports today that some local nut says he was bar hopping with the pilots just hours before they operated this flight?

And then the local DA, in the midst of an election campaign, states that the site is a possible (drum roll) crime scene.

Does this mean that the pilots are guilty of the treacherous crime of leaving the scene of an accident?

You know, just like those pilots of another flight were accused of being, by that distinguished attorney Aquagreen73s. Just wonderin'.

One pax went to the hospital eh---F/A on-- "the"--319 said she described the event as "a warble as if the aircraft was in windy condition while parked at gate"--319 was parked in holding area for rwy 19 and 170 was "snuggling in tooo close ---not sure how much of 170 winglet/under wing of 319 was damaged --the winglet for 170 is rather tall for such a smaller aircraft .
