United Enhances Onboard Product

United announced on Thursday a number of meal and non-meal enhancements to its onboard product, changes designed to strengthen its connection with frequent business travelers. While there will be changes in all cabins, most will occur in United First® and United Business® class cabins in North America and International markets.

"Throughout 2004, we will be enhancing our mainline offerings, and customers and employees will continue to see product and service improvements designed to deliver a more enjoyable onboard experience to our customers," says Jane Allen, senior vice president- Onboard Service. "These enhancements help us create a platform to compete successfully worldwide against our domestic and international competitors."

Effective immediately in North America markets, hot meals will replace cold meals in United First on lunch and dinner flights of more than 2.5 hours. Also effective immediately, linens will once again line tray tables in first class on flights between 2.5 and 5 hours in length. Beginning April 1, United will offer United First customers a warm ramekin of mixed nuts on lunch and dinner flights 2.5 to 5 hours in length.

Beginning April 1, United Business customers on International flights will be offered a warm ramekin of mixed nuts, an appetizer sampler plate with seafood and non-seafood selections, and a choice of salad dressings for their salads. On flights between the United States and Europe, United Business customers will have the choice to complete their meal with an ice cream and cheese service. International United Economy® customers will see water cuplets return to the tray setups beginning April 1, as well.

On International flights, United will provide customers in United First with new service presentation concepts and meal offerings beginning in May.

"With an eye on cost-containment, we're making the right investments in our products and our brand in order to meet the expectations of our customers and encourage them to fly United," Allen says.

Now if we could just add live TV, high speed internet, music on demand (mp3s) in every seat then we would have a product no one could argue with.

In my dreams

Hmmm I wonder where Jane Allen came up with these wonderful enhancements. Sounds so much like AA.

My WARMED NUTS and linens are back!

Woo-Hoo! :D

How much did UA pay Jane Allen to dream up these amazing ideas?

Or the PR firm to concoct and distribute this pablum?

Movement is not the same as progress and UA has a history of trotting out the bureacrats with state ideas (remember Rono Dutta's proclamations just before CH11).
