Feel sorry for all the small towns effected. Maybe with the order of them staying until replaced will help. And maybe the newly merged Frontier/Spirit could move in for a quick expansion right after the merger for instant growth...


 
Maybe, but if a city can't/won't support 1-2x daily on a network carrier (with a regional jet), I'm not sure how G4, or F9/NK fill that void using larger aircraft.
 
Very true. Unless the merger will include the purchase of some smaller aircraft, but I highly doubt they would do that.
 
It's well past time for EAS to go away. Many of these are within an hour or so of other airports. Time to kill the subsidies except for remote Alaska communities where there is no alternative.

And no, you won't see ULCCs filling the void. These are one or two Walmart towns at best. It takes five to support a regional airline.
