US Airways will add two daily 50-seat regional jet (RJ) flights to Greensboro from both New York (LaGuardia) and Pittsburgh, as well as one additional 50-seat RJ flight from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

From Charlotte, N.C., US Airways will upgrade two 50-seat RJs and one 126-seat Boeing 737-300 aircraft to 144-seat Boeing 737-400 service, increasing capacity by 188 seats each way. Between Philadelphia and Greensboro, US Airways will upgrade one RJ to 737-300 service, as well as add a daily 50-seat RJ roundtrip, a total increase in capacity of 126 seats on the route.

188 seats increase??? WOW!!! Never mind that Delta will throw 757's and 767's in there if necessary as well as the other carriers...

The GSO furniture mart is something I have been hearing about from the piedmont folks for ages now. Piedmont used to TRULY increase the flights for this, and never tried to be mealy mouthed like Baldenza...

Well, it's a little more than that...

Looks like 100 more seats from LGA, 100 more from PIT, 50 more from DCA, and 126 from PHL. Plus the 188 from CLT. That's about 564 extra seats per day.

Bigger airplanes (75's or 76's, even 321's) would be nice, but that's the problem with having a static fleet with a relatively small number of big airplanes.

I do wonder why no increase on the weekend during the market. For those not familiar with it, the twice a year furniture market runs Thursday thru Wednesday. Manufacturer's reps start coming in on the Sunday before the market to get things set up, buyers (from all over the world) start arriving on Wednesday. Then for the duration of the market people are coming and going constantly.

Every hotel/motel in the area is sold out during the market. Many people rent out their homes and many of those use the opportunity (and money received) for a vacation, so local folks are leaving before the market and returning after the market.

There is added service on Sundays, not Saturdays which is not nearly as busy as Sundays.

Oops, you're right. Somehow I got 2 days between the 15th and 17th.
