Standard & Poor's Equity Research maintained a "hold" rating on Mesa Air Group after the regional airline reported strong first-quarter earnings. Mesa reported earnings of 26 cents per share compared with the consensus estimate of 22 cents per share. "However, we think several uncertainties hang over shares," said S&P Equity Research. "We believe Mesa's largest partner, US Airways, could go out of business. US Airways is also in talks to merge with America West, another of Mesa's partners. We think a combined US Airways/America West could cut the amount of regional flying done by Mesa." The research firm lowered its price target on Mesa to $7 from $7.50, or seven times the 2006 earnings-per-share estimate, "a discount to peers due to uncertainty and the potential EPS hit that could result from reduction in flying by a major partner."

Stunning. Amazing work by those guys, and original too. I hope no one actually PAYS them for a newsletter with such insights! Best. Greeter.

Amazing... but it sure is nice hearing this over the years and proving to them time and time again they are wrong!

Yeah (chuckle) we used to say that at TWA too. Different verse same song.
"In the end there will be Delta, United, and Financially Troubled TWA". It's gonna happen...just stay tuned because it will be a surprise - not a shock - just a surprise when it does. You'll get over it. Good luck!!

Capt....this is different. Most of us thought this pig was dead in January. It is all bonus from now on out. Believe me, with at least one pilot leaving every day, with senority over 20 years for some...we DO know the end is near. The real question is how long can we milk it! Take care. Greeter.

USAToday 28April:

Mesa looms large in US Airways/AmWest merger talks: Regional carrier Mesa Air Group could hold the key to whether the proposed US Airways-America West merger becomes reality. Mesa generates about 75% of its revenue by flying regional feeder flights for the two airlines, and the company's top executive says he may help with financing if he concludes the arrangement also is in Mesa's best interests, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I have to be convinced more than anything else that it's a workable deal," CEO Jonathan Ornstein tells The Arizona Republic. The merger could create a stable airline that provides regional giant Mesa with steady business. On the other side of the coin, if the new airline founders, then "… six months later, we're right back in the thick of it, less a couple hundred million dollars," Ornstein says. "That would be the last thing we'd want to have happen."

-but then again...

A lot of things could happen, let's see what actually happens. 😉
