"Mr Kirby said US Airways would end Delta's expansion of domestic services at New York's JFK airport in favour of expanding its own existing hub at Philadelphia. Delta is turning JFK into a hub to feed its expanding international network in competition with Continental's routes from nearby Newark airport.
It would also downgrade its Charlotte hub in favour of feeding more traffic through Delta's Atlanta base, and back Delta's Cincinatti operation over its own Philadelphia business."
Looks like the plan is to build on U's strengths.

hmmm I wonder if the article should have said that the new airline plans to favor CVG over 'PIT" instead of over "PHL."
It makes some sense for LCC to shift into major markets.. that does support the notion of synergies. eh maybe plausible. Seems unlikely to result in no layoffs, but maybe.
