US Airways weighs $300M in offers

Analyst: "If that $300 million is correct, it's probably $150 million for the shuttle and another $150 million for their express partners"

PITTSBURGH (Tribune-Review) - Financially troubled US Airways is considering $300 million in offers for unidentified assets the struggling carrier is shopping around.

APA (American Pilots Union) Information Hotline - January 29, 2004

This is Gregg Overman, APA Communications Director, with the APA Information Hotline for Wednesday, January 28.

US AIRWAYS SHUTTLE: A number of members have asked whether the news articles reporting that American Airlines has made an offer for the US Airways Shuttle are accurate. We have been in contact with management regarding these news reports, and have been informed that American Airlines has not made any move to acquire the US Airways Shuttle. According to management, the news reports are based on rumor and speculation, and nothing more.

The fact that American Airlines has not made any move to date to acquire the US Airways Shuttle does not preclude management from doing so in the future.

There is reason to believe PSA and its CRJ delivery positions will be sold. The benefit to US Airways is obtaining capital and reducing the company’s debt service going forward. In addition, GECAS is said to be in favor of the sale because it reduces the financiers risk in US Airways and diversifies its RJ financing.

In addition, Allegheny/Piedmont could be sold, but that is far less likely.

In my opinion, Mesa Air Group would the acquirer, but that could change if the Phoenix-based airline is outbid. This transaction would permit affiliate carrier code sharing for US Airways Express and could comply with the Jets For jobs protocol.

Finally, if US Airways and United merge, with RSA United’s equity investor, then I believe the Pittsburgh hub will be closed and the former PSA assets operated by Mesa could be transferred to Dulles to feed the new US Airways/United operation.

Meanwhile, it's still uncertain who will be the surviving mainline business entity.

Go to FlyerTalk.com and see who the passengers think will survive. Are they buying tickets on US Air for their honeymoons in June? Would you?

Your right! The Dash-8 WO's will be retired in place as soon as the feed is replaced with RJ's.

Still... UAL officials publicly indicated numerous time that they will emerge from bankruptcy without an equity investor.

Just to be "Fair and Balanced"

When do the 4th quater of 2003 numbers come out?

The cash on hand will determine how much is sold.

150 million for 60 rjs plus the 70 seaters? common they are paying 637million for 20 with 20 options..
D328 you are out to lunch!!! Mesa dosen't OWN anything...they lease! If they don't have financing in place for this order, they will by delivery.

Million a day this is true probably more. DElta asked pilots for 30% cuts
this is what it will take to save US. cwa and iam 25% and about 50 cities
to go psa or mainline express.also mainline express cities have to take
about 20% .

or wait - your other option would be the Democratic controled CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN - you know, same group that is giving us Senator Kerry who did not care if US went out of business a few years back??
Some choice..... :)
