Union officials also estimate that about 70 of the 250 flight attendants at the current Piedmont Airlines -- a US Airways-owned commuter which operates as US Airways Express -- reside in Hampton Roads.

Those flight attendants are not covered by US Airways' contracts. But the union is voting on a tentative concession package, although labor leaders say Piedmont management has indicated the tentative agreement may still be up for negotiation.

We will evaluate our situation more closely once the balloting is over, said Betsy Tettelbach of Virginia Beach, president of the US Airways Express unit of the Association of Flight Attendants, in a statement. We are still waiting to hear about our future.
