Ironic if the ILWU is who finally convinces people that outsourcing to China isn't in anyone's best interests.

Some ships from both LAX and SAV are apparently heading to Florida, where the ports are open for business. Cheaper to steam there than to wait at anchor for four weeks...

I don't think that running the ports 24/7 will make much of a difference other than to get ships off anchor -- there's a trucker shortage nationwide, and next thing we'll be hearing is that there is only so much room for containers in the yards. The railroads might be able to pick up some of the work, but at the end of the day they are also stuck with getting containers out of their yards wherever they wind up. Drayage divers and chassis shortages have been a problem for months in Chicago and other cities which are big inland container destinations.

Saw this floating around, checks out:

Filed under the California 'go figure' file.

The REAL story behind the "driver shortage" at California ports,,,,,
The NEWS says the California port situation is caused by a driver shortage.
Not so fast: It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators.
Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union). California has now banned Owner Operators.
Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035. The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist.
And in the words of Paul Harvey, “Now you know the rest of the story”
BUSINESS
CARB to begin blocking certain trucks’ DMV registrations in 2020
Carriers domiciled in California with trucks older than 2011 model, or using engines manufactured before 2010, will need to meet the Board’s new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020 or their vehicles will be blocked from registration with the state’s DMV, the state has said.
The new “health-based requirements” will need to be met before a driver is allowed to register his or her truck through the Department of Motor Vehicles, CARB says. A new enforcement tool used by the DMV beginning in 2020 will automatically block 2010 and older trucks from registration

Lower and middle class consumers are ultimately hurt by this far more than anyone else. Supply chain shortages also shut down small manufacturers, repair shops, etc. and causes prices to go up when supply is short for everything from food to drugs and manufactured goods.

Bears can cheerlead for the ILWU, but he'll be paying them, not the corporations...

Where was Mayor Pete when all this happened?

you mean Papa Pete? I'm happy for him to be a dad but if he's too busy with that just let someone else do the job.
