I'm almost 68, and in very good health good health, (Never Smoked a day in my life) and have LONGIVITY in my genes (MA's 88 and going strong).
SO.
If I live up to "MA's" age, that means I'll be collecting(on the nearer side of $2,000 a month) for the next "20" years.
$2,000 x 12 = $24,000........x 20 = $ "480,000". that YOU and 'numb nuts' will be SENDING my WAY.
Plus ...AA,...plus FULL TIME AMTRAK + O/T (AMTRAK, which I have ..ZERO plans of retiring from),= , I'm NOT worrying about ANY Belt tightening!

Just wait. The cost of routes under 750 miles is being shifted away from Amtrak and onto the states to fund.

Bears' beloved NEC is exempt, but just about every other regional route will be under the microscope. States will have to decide if they want to pay for unfunded public pensions, the costs of Obamacare, or for choo-choo trains for the poor...

You wont get an argument from me ...dell...about the segment from MDT/PIT.
For one thing, it's timed-wrong...meaning you can't make a decent connection to CHI, and furthermore they should continue it all the way to CHI, which would create a line originating in NYC to PHL-MDT-PIT-CLE-TOL-SBN-CHI.
That would be a pretty good O+D money maker along that proposed route. (Having to traverse the infamous PA. 'Horseshoe Curve' doesn't bode well for shaving time OFF of the trip.)
Additionally, just like the airlines, there are some other questionable ($$) routes that are in a similiar position, BUT those are in the Minority, compared to the majority of state funded routes that are performing exceptionally. (ME-NH-MA.(BOS)...VT-NH-MA-CT-NYC,.....VT-ALB-NYC.....YUL-ALB-NYC,...CHI-IN-Michigan(3 seperate routes)...CHI-STL(soon to go High-Speed),...CHI-MKE,..... NC-(RDU-GSO-CLT)...OR-WA-YVR,.....and of course a GA-Zillion routes running North-South-North in Cali.
The Great prognosticator...eolesen...has been More wrong than Right these days, whether it be Amtrak (as a whole) or Presidential Elections ! OUCH !
