WN's route map continues to grow every quarter even in 2007. But as to your first question, I am not sure what you are asking...

I look for Thursday May 10th to be the day that SWA announces the SFO cities. I am going with SAN, LAS, and PHX. Down the road will be MDW, DEN, and BWI. just my thoughts...........

those are good guesses.

LAS and PHX are the most obvious. The LA basin seems logical at first too, just not sure which airport. I'm hoping MDW will be in the first round to link the east coast. SAN, SEA, PDX, DEN, HOU, and ABQ are also good first and second "round" additions. BWI and PHL are wildcards for the second "round" as well.

Actually, I think that SWA will make its SFO announcement in mid-July for an early October startup -- just as they did for IAD last year. I do agree that SAN, LAS, and PHX are the obvious front-runners for the new service.

In case anyone has forgotten, SFO-SAN and SFO-PHX were the 'old' SFO routes as well...

I heard from a friend in res that the SFO schedule will open to sell very soon. Our current schedule runs through Nov 2 so my guess is SFO service starts Nov 3. We'll see!!!

SFO service will be included in the next printed schedule, available in "early June".

For those of us waiting for a May schedule, it was pushed back to accommodate this inclusion, but flight availability is still complete and current at SWA.com.

Thatisall....... prada1.webp

WN historically announces the cities it will serve first, says "schedules and fares to be announced soon" and then uploads those with the appropriate scheule update/extension. I'd say that SFO service will start on 11/4 or 11/5 (since new cities usually start on Sundays or Mondays). but the sctual schedules won't be uploaded until 6/28, 7/5 (close to a holiday though), or 7/12.

WN is a creature of habit, thats for sure...

I'm going with:

5X PHX
4X LAS
2X MDW

According to this thread on airliners.net, the announcement will come later today. The schedules are being loaded into OAG. 8xSAN, 7xLAS and 3xMDW. The start date is August 26.

holy cow, was I off on the dates...

I had LAS and MDW picked well though...

The absence of SFO-PHX is somewhat surprising. WN hasn't been shy in taking on either UA or US/HP in recent years.

It is, except for the fact that SFO-LAS is a bigger market. HP runs the same number of flights from SFO to LAS as they do to PHX -- even though PHX is the bigger hub. Actually, one of the SFO-PHX flights is a CRJ as well (though another one is a 757).

I do wonder if WN is trying to put the screws to HP/US on their LAS hub/focus city. HP/US has almost abandoned the LAS-DEN route with only two weekly frequencies at this point.
