Brother Raccoon!.....wooo, wooo!

Where is Herb Kheller in this poll? I guess "SUCCESS" speaks for itself.....When you take care of your employees, your employees will take care of you!...

If I'm not mistaken, the CEO's shown were all AA CEO's.

It's an incomplete list. I suspect there are only a handful of people with more than 35 years of seniority here, and that's what you'd need in order to have worked under Al Casey.

But it totally ignores Marion Sadler (1963-1968) and George Spater (1968-1973), who both served as president, and president/CEO respective between CR's original term and Casey's appointment.

What's ironic in omitting Sadler is he started out on the ramp (presumably a TWU member?), and climbed the corporate ladder, winding up as its president 18 years later.

As far as I can tell, he's the last President to actually come from of a front-line position, as opposed to being hired in as management.

Sadler was the one who decided accepting credit cards for installment payments was the way of the future, and other airlines followed....

Spater (a lawyer) wound up having to resign in disgrace after being caught up in the Watergate aftermath.

Looking at CEO's is sort of like looking at former Presidents of the US. The image you have of them while they're in office is nowhere near what it is once you can compare them against their successors.

Nixon was a seen as a complete failure until people were able to compare him against Jimmy Carter's missteps. Even Ford looked better after Carter took office. Nobody has one-up'd Reagan, though. Based on the current prospects for our next POTUS, I don't see anyone being capable of doing so in the next six to eight years.

So, enjoy your poll. Let's see how bad y'all think Arpey and Carty are once you have a few successors to compare them against.

I got my info from American Airlines website. http://www.aa.com/content/amrcorp/corporat...s/history.jhtml

There is no CEO/Pres mentioned by the names of Marion Sadler or George Spater.

Trust me, they were President and President/CEO respectively.... So was Ned Kemp, who served as president from 1941 to 1945 while CR was "drafted" into military service.

Get yourself a copy of Robert Serling's "Eagle" if you want a more definitive history of AA prior to 1985. Serling's books tend to wax a little poetic, but he's one of the better historians for regulation era airlines.

Ironically, Spater, obviously the least known CEO of AA, is the one who initially hired Bob Crandall away from Hallmark.

Geeze, George Warde is not listed, either. But, then, I doubt that anyone would have voted for him, anyway. :(

I know Louis X(something) is credited with saying, "Apré Mois, Le Déluge", but CR coulda said it, as well. But, perhaps not so elegantly. :)
