Why did TWU agree to the alliance?

Given that AA is much larger than USAIR why did the TWU agree to share representation (and dues with the IAM)? Under the current laws the IAM would need cards from 50% of the combined group which they likely wouldn't be able to obtain. There should be no alliance and no runoff elections, the IAM members should join the TWU like what happened at TWA and how the pilots and flight attendants have joined APA & APFA. I know Trumka pushed this BS alliance but there is nothing in it for the TWU.

there is an agreement with parties belonging to the AFL-CIO that neither can raid the other so in order for both to continue collecting dues with out either member going away the AFL-CIO with the TWU/IAM divised this to keep the dues flowing into both unions coffers. This then keeps money coming into the AFL-CIO from both TWU/IAM.

It's about our dues and NOTHING More.

If the AMFA Organizers got enough cards with the current drive, this would be another reason the AFL-CIO/TWU/IAM want the association to be put into place.

Because then both the TWU/IAM would both be GONE and the AFL-CIO gets Zero as well from US

It wouldn't be a raid if the IAM had gone out and asked AA/TWU members to sign IAM cards. During a merger that is a possibility in fact the TWU tried it when HP and US were combining. The AFL-CIO wanted the unions to discuss alternatives a drawn down in resources fighting amongst each other.

A raid is where there is no merger of work forces and another union poaches its members.

Where is the AMFA Nat'l? It is most likely why the AMFA Nat'l isn't investing any resources in organizing AA because the TWU members have continually started down the path towards AMFA and never sealed the deal. They are also tied up in negotiations with SWA that are now close to three years old.
